I'm pretty sure he was referring to all that has happened since 911. He didn't like Bush, he hoped Obama could really change things and he is unhappy that he went to war and feels unappreciated because his benefits keep getting cut. He feels like he earned what he was getting and he hears all this blind patriotism while seeing little and then less on the other end....which to him is taking care of vets and giving them what they were promised. To hear him say it "They'd probably be real happy if I kept riding my horse in parades while they keep taking what I earned, now wouldn't they? But they keep waving flags, don't they?"
