that (through Ukraine in this case) is the shortest way. airplanes travel along the great circle around the planet. the shortest route is that which follows the orthodrome between the departure and destination. it's spherical geometry not planar. the straightest path between two points on a sphere projects as an arc in planar view. it only looks like it's not the shortest distance but you have to keep in mind that Earth is a sphere.

 

Doesn't it seem odd how quickly the establishment media is already convicting Russia of the incident without a conclusive investigation or solid evidence?

eh, the plane (or anything else suspended in air) rotates along with the Earth. just like the atmosphere does. planes are attached to the Earth, they are not spaceships.

otherwise, a helicopter could just stay suspended above one spot and wait for the destination to come to it. this does not happen. using a chopper example, your destination is in the same place relative to you at 0:00 hours and 10 hours from you, if you remain suspended in the air for all that time. the destination does not move around when it comes to air travel.

a compass/gyroscope and wind speed are used to determine a heading when flying.

So what do you make of the 3 missile vehicle heading back into Russia right after the plane was missiled down....missing one missile?
It is a shame there were 80 children on that plane and a leading scientist in the field of prolonging aids people's lives...and countless others.

It was up to the pilots to fly over that area or not...most avoided it, but Air Malaysia did not in this case, probably to save money on fuel....and also over a certain altitiude was supposed to be safe......

 

Some airlines avoided the area, but it seems like most did not. There qere two other civilian planes in the area at the timw as well.

 

Putin also passed over the area around roughly the same time in his presidential plane so now he is trying to say the missile was shot by ukranians who mistakenly thought the plane was putin's plane.

 

There were 154 dutch people on board. Kids and babies as well. So it's allover the news here. We got showed some video footage of some people taking personal stuff of the passengers from the crashed plane. Official investigators weren't allowed near it though (because of seperatists restricting them access). First time I saw our prime minister almost flip on tv. He was so pissed he demanded Putin to coöperate in a phonecall.. or else

Atmosphere doesnt rotate at exactly the same speed as the earth, especially at 30,000 ft, earths rotation is one of the things that cause wind speed in the first place, for the most part west to east.

I know what you are getting at, its all relativity stuff, earth rotates at the equator at about 463 m/s, if you were to jump up for 1 second, no you wouldnt land 463 m from where you were. But if you were able to jump up to 30,000 ft for one second, I wont worry about the calculation but you would land about 50m from where you were, all else being equal.

Its why on long haul flights your return is a couple hours longer or shorter, depending on which way. Also have to factor in the bulge of the earth when travelling from the pole to the equator, that accounts for a small percentage, is why on trips from north to south hemisphere they tend to dart straight down around the equator

The separatists shot down multiple Ukrainian planes in the last couple weeks. The separatists also bragged on social media that morning that they had shot down what they believed to be a Ukrainian cargo plane around the same time MH17 went down, later deleting those posts.

The Ukraine has shot down zero planes, because they have no reason to, because the separatists don't have planes.

Not very difficult to figure out what happened.

Dont know if it made your news, but there was a family of 5 that I think were tallied as Australians that were permanent residents, Husband was Dutch, Wife was Malaysian and their three kids, all wiped out cos of this. So 154 plus 5 kind of
