What do you pay to park where you live? Going up to $2.00 an hour here...that's on top of the $4.00 a gallon for gas.
There is no paid parking anywhere within the county where I reside Blessed be the countryside. Sorry for the cities...and their inhabitants.
I've lived in both the city and the country. I grew up in the sticks. But I've become totally citified though. I need spas, sushi, museums, and eccentric neighbors.
Nothing either. We have parking lots where you pay up to 25€ for 24hrs but you don't pay on side of the roads. If you want to leave your car safe you pay the money which is fair I think. I can park 11 cars easily in my driveway so, lol. I should start a car park.
"Parking meters...what are these? It's not bad enough I have to pay rent in the city? Now my car has to pay rent at the curb? I pay for my car to sit in a parking garage and now, whenever I go anywhere, I have to pay for a section of the street--by the hour, mind you. These aren't real parking spaces. They're asphalt prostitutes, really. You ever see a Western? The cowboys would come riding up to the saloon and tie their horses up at that hitching post. You never saw cowboys putting quarters in the watering trough. No, they'd just tie up the horse, and go inside for some sarsaparilla without a care in the world. Meanwhile the sheriff and his posse would ride by...you think they were ticketing these horses? You think they ever put a boot on a thoroughbred? My guess is, the municipal government of these wild west mining towns realized that one, towing a horse was impractical...well, they have no wheels. And two, when you factor in the cost of feeding and boarding the vehicle in question, it was just redundant. 'Gee, sheriff are you going to fine him for the illegal parking of a horse?' 'Well, when you factor in the hay, and the water, and the fact that it produces waste even without running, it seems a bit much.' I don't know if you know this, but that's how the wagon train got started. It was really the first carpool lane. And if you had a fancy exotic breed like an Arabian, that was the wild west's equivalent to a luxury car.'
The problem with the motoring industry is that they're pumping out hundreds of thousands of cars each year but they're not making any spaces. I'd love to see at a car show a new direction, the robes pull back and the circular display stand is vacant. New from Chrysler, a space!
Meanwhile in Japan, in downtown Tokyo, I've paid as much as $20 an hour dollars for parking. It's insane. Then there's these rotating parking spaces and garages. I was never brave enough to find out how much it cost to park in those.
I live in a small city. Most of the street parking is free but some is limited to a couple hours at a time. There is a parking lot behind one block of stores and banks that charged 5 cents for 15 minutes (20 cents an hour).
Mayfield took out all its parking meters years ago, but the last time I saw one seems like the rate was 10¢ for 15 minutes.
No meters where I live, but in the big town they have these fancy new meters, one to a block. You have to remember where you park walk to the meter and then enter the parking spot number into the machine and pay somehow. I don't know how, with a credit or debit card maybe. Or maybe you wave your smart phone around. I have no idea so we don't go there.
Look at you, getting your thread approved. Good job! Anyways, it depends on the lot. I parked at one a few weeks ago that was like $1 the first hour but then went up to $4 an hour after that which i thought was a bit exhorbitant. Sometimes lots will charge a flat rate if there's a big event nearby, like $10 - $15 for the day I think on average its usually like $1.50 - $2 an hour.
no meters in my town when i go into the city i put in a dime and never noticed how much time it adds but its enough to cover whatever im usually doing there at home i just park in the driveway....parking on the street is risky too many spoiled little punk bitch kids with no respect for other peoples property whats up with the censorship comments?...is random thoughts set to need approvals for threads now?
Oh, too late to edit my post above. I'm dumb and didnt see this was asking about meters specifically. We have free street parking here, no meters. But its damn near impossible to find a free street spot. So my answer was for lots and garages
There are only parking meters downtown here. I believe they are only checked at certain hours too, probably about the same price as Deidre mentioned but there is also fairly good public transportation downtown here, so I'd opt for that unless I was just meeting up for a lunch or something quick downtown.
