thats not ignorant. its just showing how stupid some people can be about the whole vegitarian thing and thinking that meat is bad.
If i may ask you a question, it's not meant to be ignorant but I've been wondering for a while. What exactly is the point in being a Fruitarian? I mean,. do you really think humans shouldn't eat "living" veggies and fruit, or do you think it's healthy for you? I just never got that, might sound stupid but I don't know much about it. I just think humans are built to eat everything, they have always eaten meat as well, and I think it's ok. After all, animals eat other animals too and we don't dispise them for that. And if you take care to buy meat from good places then i think there's nothing wrong with eating it. That's just my opinion, but it's everybody's own decision in the end. Innit. lol
theres nothign wrong with being vegitarian, unless your convinced its "animal cruelty" and unhealthy to eat meat. And then when you force these beliefs upon your children so they grow up thinking the same bullshit.
there's lotsa places you can get protein apart from meat....check out some of the other vege threads to answer that one and I even know fat vegans and vegetarians, weight has a lot more to do with the amount of food you eat and the quality of that food (ie: I had a friend come back fro India fat..yup...vege...vegan actually and fat...they use ghee to fry things in there and this is just way more fattening than the way we cook.....and you know what..isn't obesity one of the major problems in our societies...maybe a diet that didn't lead to weight problems would actually be a good thing... of course we don't need to eat meat to survive healthily however as long as the person is taking care to provide fully balanced meals to their kids I don't see that anyone can berate them for doing so...there are plenty of meat eaters who do not do so...
you missed my point. I know you can get protein from other things, meat is just the best source for it pretty much. And i wasnt talking mainly about vegitarians, only the stupid ones who think meat is so bad and unhealthy and that its cruel to animals and shit like that.
well I don't know about the bad and unheathy bit as I am sure I do a load of badder things than eating meat...however I am one of the cruelty peeps....can't kill them myself and therefore am not going to get someone else to do it for me ...well thats my choice and argument..I am such a wuss I can not even catch fish....and when the slugs go mad in my front garden I totally wuss out and throw them over the fence cause I can't squash them.... *wanders off to deal with her own wimpiness*
I said it was ignorant because you were stating your opinion about vegetarians getting enough protein as though it was a fact when really its just your opinion. The facts prove otherwise... "Plant protein can meet requirements when a variety of plant foods is consumed and energy needs are met. Research indicates that an assortment of plant foods eaten over the course of a day can provide all essential amino acids and ensure adequate nitrogen retention and use in healthy adults, thus complementary proteins do not need to be consumed at the same meal." ( http://www.eatright.org/Public/GovernmentAffairs/17084.cfm)
Well, for me it is an animal cruelty issue. I will be raising my kids vegan, just like I will be raising them Jewish. Let's look at the facts again, shall we?.... "Well-planned vegan, lacto-vegetarian, and lacto-ovo-vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy and lactation. Appropriately planned vegan, lacto-vegetarian, and lacto-ovo-vegetarian diets satisfy nutrient needs of infants, children, and adolescents and promote normal growth." (http://www.eatright.org/Public/GovernmentAffairs/17084.cfm) Oh, and the reason I'm using the facts from the American Dietetic Association is because they are neutral. All they do is gather the facts about nutrition and diets (good and bad) and make them available to the public. That way you can't say that its "AR bullshit".
"meat is just the best source for it pretty much" Meat is not the best. Easiest perhaps, more socially acceptable, sure. Not best. Meat has all kinds of crap in it that harms your body. Lean meat eaten in moderation is perhaps acceptable. However vegetable protein has all of the same benefits with very little downside. I'm vegan and don't like to push my beliefs on people, but when idiots get nasty about it, someone needs to correct them. And at least the dumb vegans have conviction about what they do and why.
Exactly Nearly got all fired up and offended then thought; why bother, I know the truth and don't need to justify myself to some kid. I object to the term ignorant though in any way. It's unfounded, offensive, libel and the last resort of the truly ignorant. These diets are well thought out from deeply held convictions. When you research something for years, act on it, and can justify yourself with an intelligent rational response. Then I might consider your point.
This is called RAISING CHILDREN WITH YOUR BELEIF AND VALUE SYSTEM, not "forcing beleifs." ALL parents use their value system while raising their children. BNF, this thread is NOT to diss vegetarians. It is a discussion of how to raise healthy veg children. I don't think the arguments against vegetarians is appropriate here. They don't have to justify themselves or how they are using their values to raise children. You are 15. You are not a parent. Please stop disrepsecting the vege parents (who know what they are talking about, in both nutritional and parental roles, as they DO both) OK?
