Yo asked why the term environmental was used, and I said this was the enviro form, not the lazy make excuses form (see SUV drivers or people who eat lots of fast food)
both are bad. what really gets me is how people use like 47,000, paper towels, when they only need like 2. you find them all shoved down the drain(thats what people do in my school...ignorant selfish people..anyways) and if they use the hand dryer thing, they push the button like 5 times, when they only need to use it once...WHATS UP WITH THAT?!?
Who said we even needed either. Just some spoilt brat that was to affraid to wipe his hands on his pants. Get real. but if i had to choose between the two i would say paper towls if they were recycled because if we all used the hand dryer we would use up s much power contributing to global warming.
if you just did number #1 then just use purell pump on hands, rub together, exit when someone ELSE opens the door to come in so you don't have to touch the piss handle on the door. (being that some people don't wash their hands at all)
the air thing is probably better for the environment, and I always use it, and then give an angry stare at those that opt for the paper towels
Well I prefer the choice, as the hand dryer automatically draws in replacement electricity to power it, while the paper towell dispenser often goes empty. So put in both and let people enjoy their choice. But I must comment on this awful hand air dryer, I heard in some restaurant bathroom. It boasted something about how turbo or fast it was, but every time somebody rubbed their hands under it, my ears hurt. It should be banned for excessive decibels or "noise pollution." Come on, get a regular "lame" hand dryer, not one that robs me of my hearing before I am even old.
IMO most paper towel overuse comes from their comming with the interlocking fold. Want one, grab one, get three, use what you get, is a common pattern. Blow driers - as commonly used, they don't do the job. Therefore, the energy they use is wasted. On the other hand, they provide training for the pant leg method.
When I'm in a bathroom and I see one of those electrical blower things I instantly get pissed. I hate them with a passion. My life doesn't need a 5 minute stop to dry my hands off, so I go with the "flail arms and use pants" method. That's never failed and I've yet to see a tree die because of it.
If you use paper towels don't throw them out just yet, keep it, put it in your pocket. They are still clean and will dry and you can reuse it. This has saved me many times in the past when I or some1 else needed paper towels on the fly. You can even use them to cover the "piss handle on the door" as you open it (like when no one is coming into the washroom any time soon).
yes there is... what about the truck that transports the towel there? or the laundry to clean then, that uses detergent and electricity.. you have electricity use, CO2 emissions, fossil fuels and electricity.. not at all good pound for pound i'd say hand driers are the most efficient
I'm sure others have mentioned it already, but I skip all provided hand drying options at public places, and dry my hands off on my own clothes. I don't use the cloth roll type things either, simply because I've never encountered one that was not constantly damp.
I use the air dryer, though it doesn't work as well. if I'm wearing jeans, I'll wipe my hands on that, but at work, I have to keep my uniform clean. ):
my clothes always worked well for me..but unless I piss on my hands,I aint too worried bout washin em,theyll just get dirty again.
Glad to see that I'm not the only person who thinks about those dirty door handles. 1 paper towel is what I use, could be about environmentally equal to the one-push hand dryer...if there were automatic opening rest room doors, I'd be happy with my skirt. I think the motion detecting paper towel dispensers are asking for extra waste...ever seen how much paper towel a youngster can waste when the 'neat' machine is spitting it out every time they wave a hand in front of it?
I do not like either option, so if I am not in my bathroom, I wipe my hands on my jeans. If I am in my bathroom, I use my towel. Peace and love
barter mama has a good point on the little cloth-thing in the loop- thing...no wasted materials/resources. Let's bring that back.
Yes, my own clothes have usually served me pretty well. LOL. Although someone had an idea of flailing your arms around until dry. That sounded fun...
I vote for the air dryer. Yeah, it uses energy, but your hands are only under it for less than a minute, so it can't be as bad as using 2 or 3 paper towels.
