Planning on moving to AZ soon but I am a chronic pain patient and with the new drug laws I am worried about being able to get my meds in another state. I am just looking for general information. I am not asking for sources. I currently take percecet 10mg 1 4x day and 2 at bedtime for back and neck injury post MVA.

Bring ALL your medical records and Pharmacy records with you, also start a daily/hourly pain journal. Doctors like to see everything up front. See if your current Doctor will write an assessment to the Doctor you choose to go to in Arizona.

Im sure with all the info the Doctor you choose will not deviate from you current care

Hope this helps you out -- I really do because I have been through this and this is what worked for me (FINALLY)

Yea I have all my records including all of my injections, MRIs, but it does worry me. I know a lot of pain management doctors are reluctant to take new patients from other states. I just hope I don't run into problems. Unfortunately these laws make it hard on people who actually need the meds. Someone did tell me that I could cross over into Mexico to get meds if necessary. I have no clue if that is accurate or not. I was thinking about doing that for some of my other meds because I can get them so much cheaper there.

Getting the meds in Mexico is one thing, getting them across the border is another. If it's just a bottle in your pocket they may not find it, but there's always a chance they'll pat you down. Personally I wouldn't risk it, but it's up to you. If you have a prescription from a Mexican doctor it might work, but I'm not really sure. Just tell your current doctor that you're moving to Arizona, and ask him how to handle it. Your new doctor in Arizona may have you sign a release to get your records sent from your current doctor. If it all checks out you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks but I wasn't talking about doing anything illegal. I figure that you would need an rx to bring meds back. I heard about other people doing that just because meds are so much cheaper there. Some of my other meds ( not pain ) are very expensive. As far as the pain meds go yes I have all my records, MRI, progress notes etc... The good news is that my doc does know a doc in AZ and is going to try and see if he is taking anymore new patients.

That sux and I think is unfair. If the person tested positive for hard drugs or even alcohol I could understand doc becoming concerned as they don't mix well. But cutting people off for just green is is overkill in my opinion. I have seen docs do that to other people and it is one reason people turn to H. People in intolerable pain will do what they have to in order to relieve their suffering. If a doc is concerned he/she can always monitor the meds more closely. Just my opinion.

And yes I intend to make sure I have everything I need before i head out.

I agree with you, weed shouldn't get you cut off. I can't think of any dangerous interaction between weed and opiates. Doctors can be tight-asses though when it comes to pain killers, and they might think that if a guy is using weed then he may be on other drugs as well. That's how they're indoctrinated to think.

The pain management docs have the government on their asses. That's why they are so careful.
