As I always say, Hendrix was great, but Buddy Guy is still living and has been playing for over a century... :p hahah... and I've shown chuck that, as well... Hendrix's playing style was moreso influenced by Buddy than anyone else, as far as I can tell. Hah... just listen to Money with Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, and Robert Cray, Hey Joe, or Champagne and Reefer with stevie ray vaughan and buddy guy.

Whoever thought a career could be saved by a sandwich... haha... if it wasn't for Muddy Waters and that sandwich that saved Buddy from heading back to Baton Rouge, he wouldn't be where he is to day. Not only that, but he's almost 70 and still has it in him. If I were to put it to a ratio of best guitarists to old age, I'd have to say Buddy would be at the top amongst Hubert Sumlin, Honeyboy Edwards, BB King, and Robert Junior Lockwood...

Buddy Guy influenced most of the great guitarists of that era.. I think that Eric Clapton probably still wishes he was Buddy Guy. :D

Hendrix is clearly better in my opinion. In terms of performing ability Page comes no where close.

And to whoever said that Hendrix was "losing it" before he died, that's a load of crap. He was definitely getting more experimental, esp. in "First Rays of the Rising Sun" the overlaying of 5 guitars on a single track. But to say he was "losing it" is ridiculous.

BTW, Jimi was in talks with Miles Davis about a collaboration before he died. Just imagine what that shit could have been if Jimi didn't die. It would've made a huge impact on music.

Hell, so do I. :p lmao.

"... when I saw Jimi Hendrix I knew immediately that this guy was the real thing ... and when he played it was like a rough sketch of what he was going to become ... this guy was our generation, and he wasn't in a suit .. he played a Howlin' Wolf song 'Killing Floor', and then we (The Cream) had to carry on the set. It was pretty hard to follow ... " - Eric Clapton

"I've always wanted the sound of Muddy Waters' early records - only louder " - Eric Clapton

"...Everyone has their own sound, and if you're heard enough, folks will come to recognize it. Style however, is a different thing. Try to express your own ideas. It's much more difficult to do, but the rewards are there if you're good enough to pull it off ..." - Chet Atkins

"... When I heard "Pride and Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughan on the radio, I just said "Hallelujah" .. he was just so good and strong and he would not be denied... he single handedly brought guitar and blues oriented music back to the marketplace" - Dickey Betts

"...some musicians, man, you hear the note almost before they hit it. Jimi, Coltrane and Charlie Parker were like that... " Carlos Santana

"It's not how much you play, it's what you play and where you play it" - James Burton

"I don't even know if I can take credit for writing "Cliffs of Dover" ... it was just there for me one day ... literally wrote in five minutes ... kind of a gift from a higher place that all of us are eligible for. We just have to listen for it and be available to receive it" - Eric Johnson

"... I'm not conscious of the speed ... it's not my motive ... my motive is displaying a voice through the fingerboard ... it can get to the point where I don't have control over what I am playing ... I never end the gig until I can't sing anymore" - Alvin Lee

" I feel a great responsibility to deliver for our audience ... I am like their servant, but there's only one honest way to lift people up, which is to feel genuinely elevated yourself. And the way to do that is follow your heart. That's all we try to do." - Trey Anastasio

"Sounds like the blues are composed of feeling, finesse, and fear." - Billy Gibbons

"Beethoven can write music, thank God, but he can do nothing else on earth." - Ludwig Van Beethoven

"... you watch Jimi Hendrix literally reinvent the instrument. He was playing from somewhere else. He was really a kind of hybrid, and I can't even begin to imagine where he came from " - Steve Vai

"The great British blues guitarists of the Sixties - people like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Peter Green - could play like virtuosos, but they also understood the importance of energy and intensity" - Joe Perry

"We all have idols. Play like anyone you care about but try to be yourself while you're doing so." -B. B. King

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." - Plato

I have to say Hendrix did more for the blues-based genres when Zeppelin and Page did more for the mainstream and 70s rock, even though they too had blues influence. That's just how it seemed to go down, in my eyes. There's a lot of guitarists who didn't get a whole lot of recognition... guys like Johnny Winter and Rory Gallagher. As far as acoustic stuff goes, I like Steve Howe moreso for his acoustic playing than his electric with yes...

I voted for Page. I find his music far more inspiring and mind blowing than what Hendrix did and I've listened to pretty much everything both musicians have put out. I won't deny the greatness of Jimi Hendrix - he was a fabulous musician

    ....but

...I'd much rather let Page take me on a soul bending ride with No Quarter or Since I've been Loving You than anything I've ever heard from Jimi.

    To each their own.

that being said - to my grave I think Garcia was better than the both of them.
