i heard that over time tampons leave cotton in your uterus and you can get cancer so pads even though they smell and are uncomfortable and you cant wear thongs with them so you have an underwear line- which sound shallow but it really bugs me- also i can never get a tampon all the way in. just 1/2 way and then it kinda dangles there and wont go any further. really nice.
Is it true that tampons make you bleed more?? I use tampons but lately my periods heavier and I leak thru even a super-plus-size tampon. I've only been using tampons in the last two years or so. Im sure it was never that heavy before -does anyone think thats causing it? I use pads at night and towards the end of my period.
I have never used a pad in my life and I never will. To me they are gross. I'd rather wear nothing (which I'm lucky enough to be able to do since I have a super light flow that lasts only 3 days) than wear a pillow between my legs that has blood touching me. Ick. Tampons are so much more comfy to me. But to each his own. Everyone has a preferance.
Never made me bleed any more. I've always had a light flow. I know they aren't good for you to use all of the time, but I don't need them so much. Some people just have a heavy flow. Sorry babe.
woah! I haven't posted here in ages!!! but i guess i have a good reason to. I got myself a mooncup (http://www.mooncup.co.uk) I have to say it's the best invention ever! This is my first period using a cup and so far it's wonderful. It does take a bit of practice to use, but once you get the hang of it, it's just amazing! I love it that it makes me feel very connected to my body too.
i started out using pads and used to hate them and hate getting my period. the first time i got my period it actually made me nervous. wearing pads always made me feel uncomfortable, dirty and smelly, and i felt uncomfortable doing anything active in case the pad leaked. i started using tampons after a couple of years and felt much more comfortable but still hated getting my period. i usually used tampons and a pad at the beginning of my period because the first day or two is quite a heavy flow. i've now been using a mooncup for about a year and a half and i love it. i feel much cleaner, fresher and more comfortable. i also find it much more convenient for traveling and festivals and such. it's obviously best if you can rinse it or wipe it between uses but you don't NEED to every time. i just make sure i have some sort of antibacterial gel or wipes for my hands. i feel much happier now about my whole cycle. i don't dread menstruating. i still don't love it but my feelings have definitely improved! regarding what some have said about interrupting the your 'flow' if you use any internal device (tampons/mooncup/divacup etc), i think that's definitely valid, but i also think that your attitude plays a big part in that. i actually feel much more natural using a cup to temporarily stem the flow of my period than using a pad (disposable or otherwise) to soak it up. i have one friend who believes that most womens attitudes towards menstruating is very unhealthy and that using pads, tampons, cups or anything else is in a way 'denying' your womanhood. she's much more eloquent than i am at expressing that though so she doesn't use anything. just wears dark panties. but she is lucky enough to have a very light flow. i have another friend who uses cotton pads and washes them between periods. i think it's really important for women (and everyone else) to feel comfortable talking about menstruation. unfortunately it's a bit of a taboo subject in my society and most others from my understanding. so i'm glad this thread is here
ultimately i think the most important thing is that a woman does not feel unclean, uncomfortable or smelly during her period. whether that means finding something that makes her feel literally 'cleaner', or whether that means realising that social norms regarding 'cleanliness' and acceptable or unacceptable smells are usually ridiculous! and whatever method she uses to deal with her blood should be comfortable for her.
both!!! , for the first one or two nights il were a pad at nite.... but i wear tampons durin the day... and panty liners !!
bhahahaha, true.... true But tampons are strange to, im not a fan, rather a nappy (australian for diaper)
I use pads. Kind of gross but I could never actually put a tampon inside myself. I'm too disgusted by the idea of inserting an object into my body. I'm weird I guess.
