Paddling In School

I went to public school and was paddled all the way till eighth grade. About ten different times for various things?

This was in the 70s and 80s. Have you ever been? I wonder if it's done anymore.

I went to school in Nashville for 6th and 7th grade and they paddled kids. They would take them into the hallway and do it away from the class but it echoed so everyone on that floor could hear it. I only got paddled a couple of times. It definitely stung.

I was never given the strap in school.

Funny story, my sisters second grade teacher grabbed her by the coat in the school yard and it dislodged the button. When we got home my mom wanted to know what happened so Jo-Ann told her. My father came home and my mother must have told my dad later about it. In the morning he took us to school and walked into the principals office with us both. He requested that the teacher be called to the office to explain about the button and the principal stated he could not do so. My dad grabbed him by the suit jacket and stated if any teacher or he ever touched one of us again that he would not stop at a jacket. The principal never said a word and went rather white.

Today not only would the teacher have been charged but my father probably would be as well.

Personally, I do not hit my kids and with that said, no one else has my permission to hit them.

 

Same way. I remember teachers and deans on priding themselves on making the most effective paddle. Drilling holes, duct tape

 

the first time a teacher laid their hands on me was the last time..

once had this creepy teacher Mr Day was his name. he pulled the backs your hair, would actually punch you, hit you hard.
I had enough of his shit.. he used to lean on a podium , so I put oil the base the podium and it slipped from under him and caught his fingers under the wooden top. and that was the end of that.

 

Yup. I remember that. I thought it was bullshit that the teachers could paddle students because I moved there from Chicago where teachers didn't do that.

 

Same as we think about the police only it wasn't chicago

 

All my beatings ice bath dunkings and bullshit from home, school I thought was going to be a relief.

But wouldn't you know a grade school english teacher discredited my literary assignment because if was too good not to have been plagerized

Fuck the stuffed shirts keep your greasy grabby little hands away from my kids!

 

I didn't get paddled, but I got slapped so hard I saw stars! Principal took me and another joker into a class room during a recess and when he started lecturing me--my friend made some faces behind his back. The principal saw the teeny beginning of a smile and --BANG! I never mentioned it to any family--they woulda' said I deserved it anyway.

Friend of mine found out his kid was being bullied, so he parked next to the school and waited until recess. He saw some kids shoving his kid around and charged into the school yard and started pushing the bullies around, asking them " How do you like it?? Did not end well , but I understood why he did it. No one likes to hear of mistreatment of

their kid/s.

 

Unfortunately few know how to treat their kids or what a treat they are. Look at our common experience and know it needn't be this way.

 

I was spanked with a paddle 3 times for not doing my homework in the third grade. I got smarter and padded my pockets with folded up paper

 

I remember one time that I could have got the paddle but didn't. My math teacher was a real prick and I think he was more of a jerk to me because he was old and I was a "yankee" in his mind (even though I was born in Nashville). One day he was giving me shit about something in front of the class and he sarcastically said "Oh...I know I'm your favorite teacher. You just told me that the other day. Don't you remember that?" I responded with something like "I highly doubt that I would ever tell you that". His face instantly turned red and I knew I pissed him off. He made me stand in the corner for the rest of the class. Oh no....way to hurt my feelings!! Now I don't even have to pay attention to anything he's saying for the rest of class.
