Those who are familiar with the novel Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell and one of its themes, the restructuring of the English language and its usage in the form of Newspeak can perhaps be allowed to express a certain concern when relating to the gradual loss of our civil liberties that we are witnessing of late.

If anyone has happened on this thread and is not familiar with the novel and in particular its focus on Newspeak, I invite you to read the following Wikipedia article on the matter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspeak. Those who value what George Orwell had to say in his essay

Now try and match what you've just read above with certain of the words, etc. in the lists of both threads that we are being told we are overusing:

911 - Of course 911 shouldn't be referred to as a number. It shouldn't be referred to at all. It's embarassing to the Bush Administration and the only time they want to bring it up for discussion is whenever they decide to invade an Arab nation and need your backing to steal their natural assets. It will remain on my list for the reaminder of my life: 911 the day the Bush Administration commited the most heinous crime on the American people and subsequently the civilians of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Bi-partizanship - the last thing that any American Government wants is opposing groups realizing what evil they're up against and siding together to fight against a greater enemy. Of course, if you don't know the word, they're hoping that within the next generation people won't even think about it. (See thoughtcrime).

Bring those evil doers to justice - a perfectly reasoned argument when referring to some residents of the White House.

    Brainstorming
    - Using one's mind to think is a crime. Banish the word, eliminate the crime.

Bureaucracy - Heaven forbid that we should be using a word that underlines the evil of almost all governments. I'm sorry, but not only am I NOT going to stop using it, but I'm also going to ram it down their ears every time I step into a tax office and they send me to another department on the other side of town.

Catch 22 - Yes we must banish that as well, because we're not even allowed to laugh about bureaucracy (see above)

Connoisseur - a critic of wine. Let's start by banishing critics of wine and we can eventually work away to critics of government. (OK that's probably a bit lame, but you never know in the world we live in).

I'm not going to work through the whole list. I think that by now you've got the picture. Maybe some people could have expressed themselves a little more civil, but we are hipforum, we are not Shakespeare and we are not in Buckingham Palace. I can understand the irritation caused, because I too was irritated.

This list may have been posted for another purpose, and yet, sometimes, some of us are used to do innocent biddings whose true consequences we are not even aware. And even if I'm wrong and I'm the last person left in this curious world to think the way I do, these will be the only words that will never be erased from my vocabulary until my last breath:

    I WILL NEVER COMPLY.
