No offense, but that is not an intelligent response. At least, not an INFORMED response. The birth rate far exceeds the death rate, even with wars and disasters included. We can thank modern medicine. "As of 2004, world population was increasing by 75 million people a year." That's NET growth, not just births.

I think it's pretty clear that overpopulation will be a problem sooner or later. The real question is, how many people here are actually gonna do something about (as in have one or no kids)?

It's a huge problem but everyone seems to think that there's room for our children but NOT enough room in the World for other people's children!.I think that Super-Germs/Diseases like 'Bird Flu' & Super-Tsunamis & Earthquakes will keep populations down anyhow.

You can put a whole lotta' fuckin rats inside one cage and call it a home, but I doubt they would call it home. Saying the world could carry more humans is like saying c'mon, we can use a couple more people crammed into this phone booth, it'll be fun! Like it's a fucking game, how many stupid awkward moving mother fuckers can we put on this Earth to fuck it and each other up?

Overpopulation and the insane amounts of humans on this planet make me sick. People who have kids tend to make me sick too. They are ego sick, and more often than not they are not truly happy or content with themselves, and worst of all, their ego sickness is contagious. I could NEVER with a good heart and clear conscious, bring another human being into this world to suffer, and I guess that makes me part buddhist believing life is suffering, but IT IS, and I believe that from the bottom of my heart. I truly could not bring another human being into this world... Anyone who does not agree life is suffering and is incredibly fucked up is blind, even Einstein said if you aren't pissed off, you are not paying attention.

Humans are not particularly special or as intelligent as we think. What other animal fights wars, destroys their own environment, inflicts torture, and a number of other fucked up things we are capable of? Don't bullshit yourself, were not as much as we tell ourselves we are.

Why do they think their children will turn out that way, or somehow turn out unique and special, or even worse, that they ARE unique and special? Children are given more praise than they deserve, and more than adults sometimes.. what the fuck does that say about adults??? The more people in this world, the less happy the ones that exist in it become. Overpopulation is a HUGE drag on our resources, and as well as each other. It's RIGHT FUCKIN' there, and yet we don't realize it?

    chimpanzees
    wildebeeste, locust
some wasps lay their eggs inside other living insects, the newly hatched larva eat the host from the inside while it is still alive. Is that "torture"?

LOL... hmm.. monkey wars? I know they fight, but wars??? They got weapons or bombs???

And on the insect things, how conscious are they of what they are doing? I guess you could make the same argument about humans though too, lol...

Were still the only ones capable of destruction on a (seemingly))massive level, unless those monkeys know something we dont....The fact remains, there are things truly unique to human beings that are pretty fucked up, and things that we can possibly transcend. Spiders eat their mates out of instinct, not because they were conditioned to.

scarlit, i agree 100%, u should write a book or something, this is some thing you really know... this "ego sickness" (great word!), i have been thinking exactly about this, me too..... in the end we are the slaves of our genes, because we want absolutely just our genes to win/spread/multiply in the future, it's all about US and our bloodline. I think that when people will realize that they are not the sum of their genetic makeup, they'll not be so egoistic....

Goodall saw and reported that a band of chimps would surround and beat (frequently to death) males from other bands. They took the females and territory from those other bands. Eventually, the originaly successful band was almost wiped out by other bands of chimps. "War" is an appropriate description.

Yeah, I was streaching on the other examples. Although there are many species that devistate the ecology to the limit of their ability. Humans are unique because we have the most ability. Also, consider when a beaver builds a dam, it destroys the existing ecosystem and replaces it with another. Beavers are considered cuter than locust, so I chose locust as an example of non-human eco. devistation.

If you want to beleive that humans are uniquely evil, you are welcome to it. I prefer not to believe in any version of original sin. I don't think it is wise to think of any group (even the whole of humanity) as "good" or "evil."

i don't think that we r evil, but we have minds/technology, so we can understand what's going on, we destroing the planet, and we hare the ability to make choices (we don't run on instinct excluselivly)
Yeah some time i wish i was an animnal, just follow your instincts, but unfortunately we were born with something else.... You cannot compare us to animals only.

Many of you are such self-centred. You want other people to do something about "overpopulation" what are you doing?

I wouldnt call us evil though I'd admit to thinkin it from time to time. We do have a unique potential to create destruction on a massive level... and to be conscious of what we do and how it effects other living things, this planet included. We also have a unique potential to reach a state of transcendence and achieve oneness with the interconnection of the universe, but thats a topic for another thread.

And we do have instincts I think, we just suppress them with things like conditioning, houses, civilization, toxic environments, toxic diets, etc...

What can you do about overpopulation besides going on killing sprees or getting the idea through to those around you before its too late? Children our precious to us, for whatever fucked up reason, and its hard to convince a lot of people otherwise. I'm pro-choice, pro-contraceptive, and don't ever plan on having a kid(unless its adopted which I still doubt), for what thats worth. I'm also pro-death and always smile when I hear about things like tsunamis. Dont get me wrong, I feel for the survivors and it'd suck to be them, but I feel like the Earth is taking care of itself and I get a kick outta that. Plus, theres worse things that can happen to you than death and people should celebrate it as well as mourning it I think.
