Just visited the plants after 10 days to my horror they had all wilted, just got there in the nick of time or so I thought. just after I had watered them it started raining and hasn't stopped much since. The weather man says though the hot weather is due to return at the end of the week and it should be a blazing August. Heres a couple of pics as of August 1st.
The English weather has returned its been blowing a gail and raining heavily for three days the temp has dropped over 15 degrees. Just hope when I visit tommorow they havn't blown over. Any tips on securing pots and protecting stems would be appreciated.
Get some sturdy sticks or metal re-bar or drapery rods, something like that. Place at least 3 around the perimeter of each planter. The use another piece. Drive into the soil about 4" away from each plant. Then use thick yarn to secure the plants main stem(s) to that stay.
Somebodies nicked my best plants and kindly left me the two smallest ones. I've bought these indoors to flower. Will try again next year. Its a good lesson, i won't have them all in one spot next year plus I've learned to deal with slugs and snails etc. Must be bad Karma for not posting in this forum for a while.
I guess the debate still goes on - can an oudoor grow be completed in the UK? I jumped on this thread a bit late, but I had high expectations. I figured if anybody could do it, you should be able to pull it off. Damn rippers!!! Better luck next time!
Seen as though my plants were cut short thought I would post some photos of my friends plants grown from the same seeds as mine. There also outdoors in the UK. Just wanted to continue this thread to show it can be done outdoors in the UK.
they are signs brilliant growth, some of the leaves look a bit manifested but i didn't know you could grow plants that big in the outdoors!
Its my friends first attempt outdoors he used the cheapest leftover soil he could find as he did not believe they would grow outdoors. They weren't planted untill almost, JULY. It shows with little effort anybody can do it.
"he did not believe they would grow outdoors" Where did he think they grew before Humans decided to grow indoors?
For some reason a lot of people think you can't grow outdoors in the UK. It being to cold. But normally the first frost isn't before November. Hollands climate isn't much different to the UK and they seem to do fine there. So come on give it a go lets grow grow grow. Ho ho ho.
