Is this what they teach you in American History these days? The US would never have defeated the English without the huge investment of the French (money, weapons, soldiers, training, etc). Doesn't matter; all's fair in love and war. But the following comment is ridiculous, because without the French the colonies would have lost and quickly. Come to think of it, when's the last time America has won a war it started? A good track record of coming in and closing them out (The Great War and WWII, without a doubt, the US were tide-turners), but Korea was a stalemate, Vietnam was a L, and Iraq is on its way to being an L. I suppose the north won the civil war but fighting yourself doesn't really count.
IRAQ,IRAN, & PAKISTAN.???? the foundation of civilisation?????????? You will be surprised to learn then that infact Egypt is that and its in Africa BTW the british troops are merely being put in Afghanistan, theyt are not coming home, they are merely going to guard the heroin crops as the Taliban hjave been raiding them and the income stream from selling heroin has been disappointing this year. Now the oil fields are secure the drugs supply must be secured now
Oh dear oh dear, you're an idiot - that or just plain ignorant. GO LOOK IT UP. you can come back and apologise any time
well, it sorta missed the target, since so many of the uk-ers REALLY DO despise all things american. when my jokes miss their target, in find that typically i really shoulda used the smiley instead of trying to be subtle.
Alright trombonebleu, I know you wanted to give a history lesson so I will excuse you. My post didn't get in that depth of detail so you can calm down instead of an obvious attempt at insulting one's intelligence. War isn't started by one party in most situations, it takes two to tango. There is no disputing the US's military prowess based on the amount of money our government throws at it.
I wasn't trying to insult yours or anyone else's intelligence. I'm not really a history teacher but I have studied it quite a bit, and I know a lot of what is taught in American schools is flat out wrong (being American myself). The rest of it was an ill-placed tirade regarding America's history in wars. Yes, America has the most military might of any nation. But to be honest, what they've done with it in the years since WWII ended...what has that accomplished?
War victory is an oxymoron. More or less the ability to throw your weight around is an accomplishment within itself. To [attemt] to help other counteries is another.
Our government can't even control the rise of young criminals on our streets. How is it possible for them to have a seed of an idea to police the world? I don't know why our government waste millions of pounds trying to help the middle east. Everything is futile when it comes to the middle east. THe sooner our troops return from the valley of death, the better. THis war is worse than Vietnam.
It's not exactly a wise choice to suggest "my opinion is right because Hitler thought so too". Can't find anything where Hitler said England was weak, though. Got a source?
in fact Hitler rather liked Britain, on numerous occasions he tried deals, asked Britain to join him. We'd grown out of the genocidal empire business by then and told him where to stuff it.
