An interesting article by Osho on inner peace and the right and wrong kind of excitement... How Do I Find Inner Peace? - OSHOTimes
"Osho" was the mystical-sounding alias dreamed up by "bagwan" (an honorific he awarded himself, meaning "god" in Hindi; rather like calling yourself the Pope) Shri Rashneesh, a drug-addled fraud, sexual predator, and cult leader, after was banned from entry by 21 countries. In the U.S., he and his cult were involved in arson, assault, attempted murder, and even a bioterror attack, poisoning innocent men, women, and children. He eventually hoarded 93 Rolls Royces while sucking his gullible cult members dry before being deported for immigration fraud. His teachings were a hodge-podge of Hindu and Buddhist fragments and New Age poppycock; he was not a "Zen Master"; he had no lineage or Dharma transmission. Rather than faithfully turning the wheel of the Dharma, he prostituted it to serve his own egoic cravings. In an age when the teachings of so many genuinely authentic teachers are freely available to anyone on the planet instantaneously at the stroke of a computer key, why anybody would freely choose to glom on to a predatory fraud like 'Osho' completely baffles me. 25 years after Rajneeshee commune collapsed, truth spills out -- Part 1 of 5
Even Jesus and Buddha were subjected to a massive vilification campaign during the times they lived by vested interests.
Neither the Buddha or Jesus of Nazareth amassed great fortunes on the backs of their impoverished followers, engaged in acts of arson, rape, assault, and attempted murder, or poisoned children.
Some insightful sayings by Vernon Howard on the nature of agitation... "Q: Please comment on agitation. Most people mistake or misinterpret agitation or emotional excitement as happiness. But excitement is always dependent on the other or external factors, and is not always reliable due to the impermanence of all conditioned phenomena. Either the craving for excitement is obstructed leading to unhappiness, or aversion in the form of fear or anger arises on the eventual loss of the object of excitement. It is also the nature of excitement (with respect to a person or event or object) to wither with time, leading to boredom, and thus moving onto an another interesting thing or person or event, perpetually. Thus Raag-dvesh, or cravings and aversions are bound to result in unhappiness or suffering in the long run. Addiction to emotional excitement (due to misinterpretation of it as happiness) can lead to a point where people can seek excitement in unhealthy activities such as conflict, perversions or taking uncalculated risks impulsively that may lead to loss. “Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside.” ~ Ramana Maharshi The happiness of solitude is not found in retreats. It may be had even in busy centres. Happiness is not be sought in solitude or busy centres. It is in the Self. ~ Ramana Maharshi One can see here from Maharshi's teachings that Self-knowledge is the true source of bliss and is not dependent on the other or external factors.
