Hi friends, I am very interested in improving our oral health and hygiene. As a way to start this conversation, I am posting my YouTube video that combines Ayurveda with Western Science/medicine and shares how to care for our teeth and oral cavity.
    - I discuss the Ayurveda technique of kavala/kayala or gundusha, also known as Oil Pulling, to help reduce the toxicity levels in our oral cavity and overall body.
    - I also share with you the fluoride-free Neem toothpaste that i personally use - Dabur Herb neem toothpaste
    - I also mix Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda, and use these as natural teeth-whiteners.
    - And I also share with you the technique that my maternal Grandmother (RIP) shared with me on how to get straight and beautiful teeth. Not sure if it is an old wives tale but it seemed to work for me as i never needed braces and my teeth came out pretty straight!

Please give me feedback on how these go for you? Please also share your own tips here and let's educate and inspire each other! Because our teeth need to last us till the day we die so the sooner we start caring from them, the better it is. Thank you :)

apple cider vinegar is probably the worst thing you can swish around in your mouth, lol.

Actually NO. If done once every two weeks for a minute or two, it is less corrosive than any dental products or harsh teeth-whitening toothpastes and products in supermarket. But if used daily, then of course yes it can erode our enamel away.

I would also recommend magnesium oil (magnesium chloride), which is also great for not just the teeth, but the gums as well as the whole mouth.

Food grade vinegar, if used in 1-2 spoons every 2 weeks for a minute or two, is not strong enough to strip the actual enamel. It is however good to help clean stains. Done more frequently however can cause dental issues and sensitivities. It is less corrosive than some of the other teeth whitening products on shelves.

Cool video...I will have to try the oil pull...but I don't know how anyone can swish something around in their mouth for that long...kudos to you for that...I will give the best try I can. I did that thing with my fingers and front teeth by instinct.....ever since I could remember. I have pretty straight teeth, too....

Hi Meliali, love your comment! Oil pulling in shower is a great idea and people actually do that! Its after all up to us to find time for our own health and well-being, regardless of where we live and what our pressures are.

Moonglow181 - im glad the finger pushing method worked for you too. So there is something to it after all! As both of us tried it and neither of us needed braces! I will greatly appreciate if you could please leave this comment under my YouTube video also, so that other viewers can have this validation. Thank you for your positive comments on my video. Please also share your own oral health tips too. The more we share, the more we grow together! Take care :)

do you know what kind of "toxins" oil pulling "pulls" out? usually when talking about health issues, you should avoid using the word "toxins", its too general and some people consider it unscientific.

I tried the oil pulling thing a few times, but it's hard for me to get over the mental barrier of grossness. All of that saliva and not being able to get rid of it. Yuck.

I have been brushing with a natural, fluoride-free, tooth remineralizing powder for few days now, though.

I believe oil pulling is beneficial but I don't believe it really pulls toxins. Coconut oil has anti bacterial properties so there's that, and it also pulls food build up off your teeth before it develops into plaque. And it cleans between your teeth - flossing always hurts my gums so I think its a good alternative to flossing.

to illustrate coconut oil's anti bacterial properties - my boyfriend once woke up with an abscessed tooth and a lump in his neck from.the infection. It was a Saturday so it was either wait until Monday to go to the dentist or go to the ER. He did the oil pulling a few times a day that weekend and the swelling and pain were gone by the time he made it to the dentist.

YouFreeMe - I had the same issue when I first started Oil Pulling. The mental barrier does take a little while to get used to. I just kept thinking of the benefits and that helped me overcome my yucky-feelings. Now I do it every morning without thinking twice!
