There's a lot to respond to. Some of you said pretty much the same point. So don't feel neglected if I didn't address your argument; I'll try to have it covered via addressing someone else's. That being said. Yes I think the non-aggression principle is great to live by. Yes, and? They voilated the non-aggression principle. Aggression is bad if practiced by the government or the individual. I argue that you can change the culture away from aggression without the forceful hand of government. Would you eat at a restaurant who served people of your race only? Me neither. That may be, but the "feminist stereotypes" are often the ones with the loudest voices and the most influences in academia and politics. They've tainted the good name of feminism that took generations to build. Thanks to 3rd wave feminism's cultural impact, we now see a 50-60% divorce rates, more latchkey children, fatherless children, beta males, and 26 year old socially awkward millennial virgins. http://www.dishlab.org/pubs/Callahan (2012) Obesity.pdf Obese people have far more health problems than smokers as a result. Obese individuals spend more on healthcare The Health Risks of Obesity And I think it's safe to assume since you're a progressive, that you want a universal healthcare system too? People with unhealthy life choices such as obesity put a strain on your wallet in a universal healthcare soicety. Let that sink in. Not exactly a big nanny. Spreading public awareness about the dangers of obesity, and how it affects not only the person suffering, but those of us who have to pay our taxes and reduce the number of airplane and movie theater seats to accommodate them. Banning fatty foods via government policy to protect people from their own choices is big nanny. Not spreading public awareness. Huge difference. Sure you can name some righties who've been lost their looks by age. What I'm saying is that the average conservative is hotter than the average liberal. When you see a beautiful person walking down the street, they're more likely to be conservative. The liberal researchers at UCLA have concluded and agree with this The radfems at Jezebel have accepted this. Sounds like I hit a nerve, calling you out on your own black and white thinking hypocrisy. Yet most of your views are derived from the utopian fantasy known as socialism and even communism. You may not be a pure socialist or even close to a communist. But can you at least admit it is acceptable to adopt some beliefs from "utopian" philosophies?
Hey look! Ivanka is running the White House! Now hordes of feminists can go republican.... Trump vs. Kelly: Ivanka reportedly leading search for new chief of staff
As I pointed out above, obesity puts a bigger strain on healthcare services than smokers. Even in universal systems, healthcare supply is limited. When people have unhealthy lifestyle choices, healthcare services become more scarce. I'm not perfectly built myself. I can stand to lose 20 pounds. My own fat shaming I inflict upon myself motivates me to get better. Must be a generational and a cultural difference between USA and UK. I am a kid of the 80s-90s, and anti-smoking campaigns were at their peak. My family's car came standard with 7 ash trays. The smoker bad boy image was on the decline. There's a good reason why images of Barack Obama smoking cigarettes were kept hidden and not discussed by the media. Although I've never been to the UK, I had some British friends from college who insisted on rolling spliffs rather than joints. When I studied abroad in Eastern Europe, smoking was much more commonplace. That may be. But are you suggesting that it couldn't have been done any other way? Sounds like I hit a nerve. I already told you I'm an egalitarian who believes in equal rights. What more do you want from me? To admit I'm a male feminist? That ain't happening cuz it aint true. Protesting societal beauty norms seems to be a common trait of feminists. So I can see why it'd be a safe haven for unattractive women, and even unattractive male feminists. It's no wonder feminists are protesting beauty pageants and scantly clad women in video games. Hey, to come to think of it. This is where Feminism and Islam join their unholy alliance!! hahaha
I get that health and physiology is very complex, and there are a ton of factors that can determine health and longevity. Also, I'm not saying that we need to go out of our way to insult every fat person we see. I think that people need to not be afraid violating the codes of political correctness to hurt someone's feelings if they're heading down a bad path. My supervisor at work is morbidly overwheight. If fat shame him, I'll get in serious trouble. It's unethical. And there's a difference between ethics and political correctness. Yes I am a libertarian/conservatarian/classical liberal. I am not advocating that the government step in and tell us what we can and can't eat, nor would I ever trust the government to put us all on a diet. Spreading public awareness and transforming the culture can be done without the help of government. I read some and skimmed through the others. I used both left and right wing sources to provide evidence; this is becasue the people I'm talking to will disregard my right-of-center articles and attack the messenger without reading it. Of course a hard left site like Jezebel is gonna butter it up with opinions of conservatives being assholes. I mean, look at the author, Lindy West Balbus won't take any ammo I give him. He doesn't like guns. Just so you know, I agree with about 20% of what you say
6 Sorry I need to remind you once again to think before you post – the point I was making was that the whole health thing is a misdirection – I remember this person that was opposed to homosexuality and when fulled up on it he went into this whole spiel about being concerned about gay people’s health, that he wanted to protect them from their ‘unhealthy lifestyles’. Which makes it clear once again that your viewpoint isn’t motivated by a concern for women’s health but your views on women’s appearance (with emphasis it seems on how they look when scantily dressed).
6 I don’t know is there ‘smoker shaming’ if anything it seems to me that smoking is seen as ‘cool’ as in the ‘bad boy’ image in a lot of media. Here are just some examples from the top of my head from around the 80s and 90’s (remember as I told you before I’m a film buff) I could cite a lot more but I think you get the point. And I could add ones from the last few years if you wish. Grease – Danny the bad boy and at the end Sandy ‘proves’ herself by smoking -1978 John McClane in Di Hard - 1988 Just look at the Poster for Pulp Fiction 1994 Yes I know it’s a minor point and usually I’d let it slide but I bring this up to once again make the point about you needing to think and do research before you make comments. Time and again you seem more fixated on ‘scoring a point’ than looking for accuracy.
6 The great steps forward in lessening the numbers smoking was (and is) mainly down to publically funded education, regulation and law in the teeth of commercial opposition and many on the libertarian right. Yes aliens could have come down and brainwashed people into not smoking – what the fuck are you talking about – again I’m talking about reality and what happened and you want to push some ‘could have’ fantasy?
6 Yet you promote and push Social Darwinist ideas and neo-liberal economic ones both of which are very much about the promotion of inequality. Ideas that you cannot defend from the criticism that they do promote inequality and which even yourself call ‘utopian fantasy’.
6 OK we have been through the idea of a society based on the ‘non-aggression principle’ and even you say it is a utopian fantasy so can we try and keep things in the bounds of reality? LOL – oh man you are a hoot – look the thing is that I have, do and can defend and explain my ideas in a rational and reasonable way but when you were asked to defend and explain your ideas in a rational and reasonable way you said you couldn’t and admit that even you think they are a utopian fantasy How are we meant to have a rational and reasonable debate with you when you are not even sure if your own ideas are rational or reasonable?
Oh, I didn't mean to imply that you were advocating the government stepping in, but you do seem to be suggesting that society do it. For others. And that irks me. My issue isn't with big gubment telling people how to live, it's anyone telling people how to live. If the dude down the street wants to wash his Snickers and ice cream sandwiches down with a two liter Pepsi, that's his choice. And the consequences are his too. I feel like people think that fat people are stupid. Like, we need to educate them before they eat themselves to death! I think people who are overweight know they're overweight, they know why they're overweight, and they accept that every time they sit down to a meal. And we should all accept it. They're not stupid; they just weighed risk with reward and made their own choice. And that's how any free society should work.
If such a hypothetical movement ever took root I would use the banned words as often as I could in order to annoy the thin skinned.
I didn't say anything about banning words, I said a movement that asks people to use courtesy in their choice of language. It's called good manners and well bred social behavior. In other words being nice to people.
We already have those There are a ton of words none of us would ever say at work, in church, in the supermarket, in a court of law, to a police officer, in the presence of our parents and our parent's friends, etc etc
Good point. Conservatives and libertarians tend to view government as the great threat to our freedoms, but private individuals and (especially) corporations are at least as dangerous.
Well well well... Looks like Formula 1 has caved into feminist pressure and will no longer be using Grid Girls anymore, because it objectifies women. Bullshit. You know they're just a bunch of catty jealous miserable types who want to sabotage other women and bring them down to their level by taking their employment away. That's a ton of women who've lost their jobs. Give yourselves a pat on the back, feminists.
You have a problem with images of scantily dressed healthy women? I think it is perfectly fine to have more images in public of healthy beautiful people. What do you have against it? I don't know if you're aware of this young mother, Maria Kang, who made a meme of herself and her 3 kids. And the death threats she received from angry losers. She was forced to apologize. "Fit Mom" Controversy | Know Your Meme So it's only the government or "aliens" who can influence a society? C'mon man, you can't be that dense. Not every cultural transition and cultural movement was orchistrated by the government. Politics is downstream from culture.
