I remember reading somewhere that people are much more likely to fall in love with people who are from somewhere close to where they are from. This even extends to people who are from a similar geographical area, but meet somewhere other than that area--for example, two people from Georgia meet after they have both moved to California.

 

Yeah people don't often reach for anything by the sounds of it. They stick with what they think they know best. No wonder marriage success rates are below pathetic at the moment.

For me, it's been a really long time since I was attracted to someone who lived close to me. I've been in three online relationships so far, current one included, and all of them long distance, international relationships. But I feel like it's hard to find someone in my area who's actually right for me, for whatever reason.

My first online relationship was with someone from HF(I think I already said that in my earlier reply), with whom I developed mutual attraction. The second online girlfriend was from a different online community where we started out being friends and co-hosting a live broadcast. Both were from the States whereas I lived in a completely different, far away place. I did develop romantic feelings for someone kind of local while I was spending a summer in my "hometown", but that didn't work out to my favour. The following year, I met my current girlfriend who just happens to live in Europe.

I will say, though, that when I was participating in conversations with other people on the website where I met my girlfriend, I had my settings set so that I could talk to people from all over the world, based on the mutual interests. But in this case the mutual interests(I'm not going to get into what they are, but I'll say they aren't anything sexual) meant that I virtually had no hits locally, very few from North America, while the majority of hits were from Central/South America and Europe. In the end, there was this one European girl I kept talking to that eventually became my girlfriend.

 

It depends on what you want, I think. For casual sex Tinder might work well, but it's definitely not as good for finding someone if you're interested in starting a relationship. My guy best friend tried it for a while and it was pretty bad, because he wanted a relationship. I kept telling him to forget Tinder and find something that was more community-based where he could find people who shared the same interests as his.

I think I remember him also saying that one of the reasons why he wasn't having much luck with Tinder was because girls on there tend to be more after casual encounters themselves. So for those interested in casual sex, it could be a pretty effective means of finding potential partners.
