www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7FFMZUywt0 Its about one of the few remaining video rental stores, and not only that,a store which mainly rents VHS tapes. I wonder how many renters he does have? Another of the few left (Seattle WA): Scarecrow | Uniting People With Film
It was an adventure going to Blockbuster as a kid. Like will they have your movie? Will your mom drive you there? There is something cool about holding the film in your hand that Netflix does not have. It's probably just nostalgia for me.
There's still a VHS rental store on the outskirts of my town out in the country. I'll post some pictures of it here later this week.
it was a lot more effort then, so the reward felt greater. plus it was kind of a special event, unlike netflix. like you said, you had to get a ride there, and someone to actually pay for it. then you would take all the time to get there, then browse through a store full of videos, and finally settle on one, then stand in line, then take all the time to get back home. now you just turn on the ps4 and hit a couple buttons and your movie is on. and you can watch netflix movies all day every day, rather than having to wait for a friday night or whenever mom will actually take you to town to rent something, so it's not special anymore. plus, now there's the internet and advanced video games and such that are honestly more interesting than a movie anyway. back in those days a movie was pretty much the pinnacle of entertainment. and of course, everything feels more epic when you're a kid, so that factors in to how we remember renting movies too.
There is something else not quite right about Netflix Everything feels like its half way between a TV movie and a feature film Netflix quality certainly better than made for TV or straight to DVD movies from times of yor....but neither do they ever get everything quite right to get to the quality of cinema Netflix have been around long enough now for it to be noticeable, and not just to me, all the memes, where the netflix adaption is half the size of whatever Their formula seems to be, cast one single previously established hollywood actress, get the rest of the cast straight from drama school, find about 50 McDonalds staff to be the film crew
i can't disagree with this, but on the other hand i could say pretty much the same thing about a lot of the old VHS movies i rented as a kid too, which at the time were all feature films.
Seems to be a noticeable differrence in the number of action movies too 80s/90s you had all those Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Van Damne ones etc etc This decade just seems to be comic book movies No martial arts ones anymore
Given Time VHS Will Make A Big Come Back.....Just Like "Vinyl" Has.....With Vinyl..... Peeps Realised The Sound Was Miles More Natural Than "Sanitised" Digital......Eventually Peeps Will Realise VHS Pic's Have A Softer And More Realistic Appearance To Them.......I Much Prefer A Good Quality Pic On A "Tube TV"......Than The "Ultra HD" Of Today's Flat Screens...... Cheers Glen.
