Thanks I'll start a 2 day old dreads thread but won't be able to contribute much to it. (In fact I dare say it's too specific a targeted audience) Thanks for the concerns re: bands, I've taken a few out on dreads that have tighter roots just for you guys, I'll try to wean myself off them over the next few weeks!
sure they may come loose, by while they're in there you will see no progress at the roots. they are binding your hair so that it can't move=no knots.
I don't mean to argue, but in my last run of having dreads I kept rubber bands on all the time and they turned out really well: http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/1901/photo0022v.jpg
do whatever you want with your hair. however we are warning you b/c we have members with personal negative experience with rubberbands. what is the logic in keeping them in b/c you hair is short anyways?
I'm leaving them in at least until the body of each dread is tight enough to hold together on it's own, I find new dreads come apart easily from the root, the rubber bands help keep everything together while they grow a bit of length. Speaking from experience, this is what works best for me.
If it works/has worked for you, go for it (I don't consider that argumentative at all). Just check out this thread so that you make sure not to accidentally leave any of them in there: Why not to leave rubber bands in your hair. :cheers2:
yea didn't you guys see how awesome his dreads were last time he did them. he obviously knows what he's doing.
Gonna start posting updates everyone few weeks now, still taking pictures for the photolog though. This week they are noticeably gaining length which is what I want the most at he moment!
