just finished my shorty with the veggie conversion.. needs a paint job & still trying to find why the power stays on, but that's not a biggy...

got shelves, can sleep 4 ok, maybe more, small wood/coal/veggie oil stove (military multi-fuel 10 person arctic tent heater), has a work table, desk, shelves, little tub, 65 gallon water tank, 65 gallon & two 15 gallon veggie processing tanks (total fuel storage = 150 gal., 100 of it veggie), dresser, good storage area, etc. etc.

built with screws by a lunatic who used no tape measure.. i think there may be 3 or 4 nails in the damn thing, if that.. all windows open.. will post, eventually...

hi drew, just spent the last hour or so reading through this thread. it sounds awesome what you're doing. i've always dreamed of spending a year or two touring the states in a bus or rv or something. if its cool and i get the chance i would love to come and join you guys for a while and see the good ole US of A. maybe in a year or two, who knows. anyway i would love to keep up with your adventures still, do you have a blog or fb or something where you post more, maybe with pix and stuff. that would be great to keep up.

anyway, with respect to you touring the UK, i would say dont bother unless you were going to do it as part of a bigger european tour. its not that big here and there isn't really that much to see, you could tour the whole country in a month, maybe less. so probably not worth going to all the trouble and expense of shipping a bus out here. generally schools don't have the american style school buses here either, kids just get public buses to school with everyone else. the travelers here tend to convert buses and coaches(more like the greyhound coaches they have over there) to do what you're doing, so you would be best to look into those if you really were serious about it. cornwall and wales would be the best areas i recon, maybe scotland, but most of england is pretty crappy and pretty much the same where ever you go really. 20 years ago there used to be some great raves and festivals, the acid house warehouse parties were awesome and the spiral tribe do's were legendary, but you don't really get much of that now either.

anyway. i would love to keep in contact from time to time, and maybe look into coming over in a year or two. would be a dream for me. would that be ok? i'll send my email if it is.

Reading through all the pages of the HCT has been great. I'm definitely interested. I'm looking at some options, walking across the country, living in the wild, finding a free place to go. etc. etc.

 

sounds like a long walk dude, if i was in the states i think i would actually think about joining you tho. would sure be a great way to see the country. then again, thinking about it, it could be a seriously long gap between civilization in some parts. maybe a slow drive would be better lol. it would be great if you took out a few years or more to do it so you could make it very slow drive where you could get out and walk around a lot. stop in some of the cities for a good few weeks at a time. and living out of a car aint so bad, if its just 1 or 2 of you. i slept in my car for about a year here in the UK. even in winter when i was watching the snow build up and cover the windows, i had my duvet and was more than warm enough.

 

actually while i'm thinking of it, has anyone ever thought about touring the coast of the states with a boat, and south america too? that would be so cool, specially if it had sails and you wasn't in any rush, you could even whip over to the bahamas on the way down past florida for a bit. i've actually been seriously thinking about building a boat for a while. i know i can do it, its just a case of having somewhere to do it really.
