During the 60's, there were people who opposed the Vietnam war and war in general. These people protested and attempted to change the world, but in the end, failed to do so. This ultra liberal group consisted of people called "hippies." Eventually, young people turned to the hippie lifestyle not because of what was in their hearts, but as a way to fit in. They had no where else to turn. It became an outlet for these lost souls. Over the years, the hippie movement lost its integrity and became another Hollywood cliche. Today, a select few young people still attempt to follow this dead culture. They smoke their pot and preach peace, but never really attempt to do anything to change the world. They use "hippiedom" as an excuse for what they do, or rather don't do. In fact, the word "hippie" has even become an insult for some.

An intelligent person looks inside himself and finds what is best for him. He doesn't look in a 40 year old book to find answers about himself. He doesn't fall into a cliche to find his path. All of that is nonsense. Striving to be a hippie is limiting yourself.

In case you didn't know, the hippie movement failed. It will likely never win. Why not strive to achieve a higher form of thinking? A hippie mindset is not the highest evolution of the human mind. Go beyond that. This is a new age where the hippie values will not succeed. Continue to look inside yourselves and quit preaching useless, over done, bullshit, hippie philosophy.

Be more than a lousy hippie, for Christ's sake.

Well, actually, the way I see it is that if you are in it to truly help the world, then you are not, in fact, a hippie at all. I see that as going beyond a hippie. Taking action puts you ahead, in my opinion. A hippie is the one who speaks but doesn't act. Just my view...

 

People want to "help the world" for simple egoistical reasons. People want the recognition and the power.

Altruism doesn't exist.

If it wasn't for Abbie Hoffman I would hate the hippies...he opened many of them up to stuff other than marijuana. Sadly most of the self-proclaimed neo-hippies on this board do nothing but smoke marijuana and preach peace, they are worthless losers who do nothing for the plant and society except complain about it and keep toking away. And thats why I hate them...they complain complain and then complain some more but they dont do shit about it except toke away some more or drop some acid. I learned on my own that theres way more to life than drugs, and as soon as these lost little souls see that then I'll start to like them more. But theres nothing wrong with drugs if you actually do something about all your complaints....but hardly anyone anywhere does both of them at the same time.
