Five members of Australia's field hockey team have been punished for leaving the Olympic Village early Thursday to buy BEER, a violation of the strict protocols put in place to prevent Covid-19 from infecting athletes and other people involved with the Games.

Ian Chesterman, the chef de mission for Australia's Olympic delegation, told reporters a group of three athletes left the village at 3 a.m. in search of beer and went to a local convenience store. They were out of the village for about 20 minutes, he said.
Another group left at 6 a.m. but returned without purchasing anything.

"We have reprimanded them. We have isolated them in their rooms and I think they're going home," Chesterman said. "They know that they have let their own teammates down, we're here talking about this and I think from our point of view there will be no further action taken."
The field hockey players are not the first Australian representatives to make headlines for bad behavior during the Games.
    • Other Olympians were criticised for "excessive alcohol consumption" and "loud and disruptive" behaviour on their flight home.

Both golds in golfing were won by Americans. Xander Schauffele won the men's gold earlier in Tokyo.
    • Japan's Mone Inami and New Zealand's Lydia Ko both finished 16-under, and will playoff to determine the SILVER and BRONZE.

Although at the other end of the Pool: -
Spare a thought for Canadian diver Pamela Ware scored a 0.0 in the Pool

Canadian diver Pamela Ware has admitted she is still in 'shock' after she scored a 0.0 during the Tokyo Olympics for a feet-first dive during the 3m springboard semi-final.
Ware made a misstep on the springboard and bailed out of her routine at the last minute, causing her to enter the water feet first.

    • Because it was a failed dive, the Canadian was given a score of 0.0 and sealed her fate

The United States won gold in women’s water polo for the third-straight Olympics after routing Spain 14-5 behind Madeline Musselman’s hat-trick on Saturday.
The win for the Americans is the largest margin of victory in the history of water polo GOLD medal matches.
    • The US is the only nation to have medaled in each of the last six editions of the women’s tournament at the Olympics (three golds, two silvers and a bronze).
    • Margaret Steffens and Melissa Seidemann become the first women to win three Olympic gold medals in water polo.
SILVER placed Spain, meanwhile, is the second nation to lose multiple finals in women’s water polo tournament after the US in 2000 and 2008.

Hungary claimed BRONZE by beating the Russian Olympic Committee 11-9.

China’s Cao Yuan won GOLD in the men’s 10-meter platform diving, securing victory with a total score of 582.35.
    • The Chinese diver is now the first athlete to win Olympic gold medals in three different diving events - he previously won the 10m synchronized in London 2012 and 3-meter springboard in Rio 2016.
Cao narrowly edged fellow Chinese diver Yang Jian, who took SILVER with a score of 580.40. China now holds the most Olympic medals in this event.
Great Britain’s Tom Daley, who took gold in the men’s synchronized 10m platform earlier in these Games, earned BRONZE with a score of 548.25.
    • Daley becomes the first British athlete to win at least four Olympic medals in diving and the second British athlete to win multiple medals in diving at a single Olympics.

    Norwegian GOLD:
Norway's 20-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen won GOLD, as he overhauled world champion Timothy Cheruiyot who picked up SILVER with Great Britain's Josh Kerr claimed BRONZE in the Men's 1500m gold.

Kerr, far left, set a personal best and became the second fastest Briton over 1500m as he claimed his first major medal

Norwegian star Ingebrigtsen is the fastest man in the world this year over 5,000m, but opted to train his sights on 1500m instead.
He had had a grim run of form against Cheruiyot, who had won all 10 of their previous meetings over the distance, but Ingebrigtsen proved far stronger in the closing stages to reverse that trend and win the first major title of an immensely promising career in an Olympic record 3:28.32.

Ethan Hayter (left) swore in his post-race interview after winning silver in the men's Madison event with Matt Walls

Team GB cyclist Ethan Hayter accidentally swore live on the BBC after he and his teammate Matt Walls won silver in the men's Madison in the Izu velodrome.
Hayter was visibly exhausted after finishing the gruelling 50km race, in which they were just pipped to gold
In a live interview with the BBC, Hayter and Walls were discussing their race tactics and just how tiring the 200 lap event was when Hayter made the gaffe.
Hayter said: "I think my legs started to go first, the f******, the flipping first 100 laps were so hard."
Walls was clearly amused by his mate's blunder as he giggled alongside the 22-year-old and was also keen to emphasise just how brutal the event was.

    Hassan Hat-Trick:

Netherlands' Sifan Hassan won the 10,000m to seal her second GOLD and third medal of the Tokyo Olympics.

The 28-year-old, who had been seeking an unprecedented golden treble, had missed out on that feat when she took BRONZE in the 1500m but still takes home a hat-trick of medals after adding Saturday's gold to her 5,000m title.

Hassan surged past Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey, who then faded further to take BRONZE after Bahrain's Kalkidan Gezahegne passed her to get the SILVER.

    And it continues...

    upload_2021-8-7_15-21-26.jpeg
The 24-year-old Belarusian removed from the Tokyo Olympics and taken to the airport against her wishes expanded on her previous comments.
Tsimanouskaya had been set to run the 200m but after complaining publicly that coaches had entered her in the 4x400m relay, to replace one of two runners deemed ineligible to compete because they had not been subjected to enough doping tests only days before the event, it set into motion the ensuing events.

She added that few athletes who excel at the shorter sprints can add the speed endurance necessary to be competitive over 400m, widely regarded as one of the most demanding of all distances. To do it without any preparation would be extraordinarily tough and it was this that sparked off the controversy
