French fend off fightback from Denmark to claim 'Handball' GOLD:

• France held off a spirited fightback from Denmark to claim a 25-23 victory and, with that, a record third Olympic GOLD medal in the men’s handball in Tokyo 2020.

Allyson Felix overtakes Carl Lewis:




Allyson Felix overtook Carl Lewis as the most decorated American track and field athlete after helping Team USA to Olympic gold in the 4x400m relay GOLD for her 11th Olympic medal..

- The 35-year-old had already become the most decorated female track and field Olympian ever when she achieved a bronze in the 400m on Friday and this relay Gold took her medal tally to 11.

Japan win first-ever GOLD medal in Olympic baseball:

Japan won its first-ever Olympic gold medal in baseball on Saturday, beating the United States 2-0 in the final.
The Japanese, whose previous best was a silver at the 1996 Atlanta Games, went ahead in the third inning when Munetaka Murakami hit a solo home run off starting pitcher Nick Martinez.
This was followed by Tetsuo Yamada sliding home in the eighth to add another run, finally bringing the GOLDto a country where baseball borders on a religion.

Japan had already won in softball at the Tokyo Games, with the two sports returning to the Olympics for the first time since 2008.
With Major League Baseball banning its players from appearing, both teams were stripped of their biggest stars including Japanese phenomenon Shohei Ohtani.

The Americans fielded a team largely made up of minor league journeymen, although former New York Yankee and current free agent Todd Frazier was a notable exception.

Japan were able to draw on players from their domestic league, and Yakult Swallow Murakami gave them the lead with a booming home run to center.
Yamada edged the home team closer when he slid headfirst to home plate, beating the tag after an American throwing error.
Closer Ryuji Kuribayashi then saw the game safely out, giving Japan the title and prolonging the Americans' wait for their first gold since the 2000 Sydney Games.

Laura Kraut jumps into History:



Laura Kraut jumped into rare territory on Saturday.
The American equestrian competitor, along with teammates Jessica Springsteen and McLain Ward, won a SILVER medal as part of the United States' team jumping squad during Saturday's final.
The result made Kraut, 55, the oldest American woman to earn an Olympic medal in 117 years

The British boxer won with a unanimous decision from the judges.

Track cyclist Jason Kenny's Historic GOLD:


Kenny stunned the men's keirin field as he sprinted clear with three laps remaining to claim victory. It is his ninth Olympic medal overall.
The 33-year-old won SILVER in the team spirit at the Izu Velodrome to become GB's most decorated Olympian earlier this week but was unable to defend his individual sprint title.

• His tally of seven GOLDs is one more than former team-mate Sir Chris Hoy.

"Seven gold medals is really special. When you look back on the ones you have already got, it seems pretty easy," said Jason. "Then when you try and get more, you remember how hard it is.

Kenyan Masterclass retains Olympic marathon title:



Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge delivered a masterclass in running to retain the Olympic title in the men’s marathon at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The Kenyan runner, running in his fourth Olympics, crossed the finish line in Sapporo Odori Park in a time of two hours eight minutes and 38 seconds.

• The time was faster than the one he ran to win Olympic gold in Rio in 2016.

"It means a lot for me, especially at this time," said Kipchoge on winning his second Olympic GOLD.

USA dominant with victory over Japan in Basketball final:

The U.S. women's basketball team defeated Japan, 90–75, to win its seventh consecutive gold medal, an incredible streak of dominance against the world's best teams... Brittney Griner was unstoppable for the Americans, scoring 30 points on 14-for-18 shooting with five rebounds and three blocks

With seven medals – one gold, two silver, four bronze – Tokyo 2020 has been the most decorated Olympic Games in India’s history.
The seven stars who scripted the success:-.
1. Neeraj Chopra: didn’t compete on the international stage for 17 months, between January 2020 and June 2021.
2.: Saikhom Mirabai Chanu: went without competition from December 2019 to April 2021.
3. PV Sindhu: featured in five tournaments from March 2020 till the start of the Olympic Games.
4. Lovlina Borgohain: used the money she received as part of her Arjuna Award – the 2nd-highest state honour for Indian sportspersons – for the treatment of her mother’s kidney ailment.
5. While Ravi Kumar Dahiya grappled on the mats in Tokyo, the local administration in his village in Haryana had to make special arrangements to ensure his parents could tune into the action without any electricity cuts.
6. Bajrang Punia :had to forfeit a match a month ago after injuring his right knee, which would remain strapped through most of his contests in Tokyo.
7. The Indian men’s hockey team: had spent most of the last one and a half years locked down at a national training facility in Bengaluru. In the six months leading up to the Tokyo Games, they had spent a total of four days at their respective homes.

 

Serbia defend their men's water polo Olympic title:



Serbia have defended their Rio 2016 Olympic title in the men's water polo after defeating Greece 13-10 at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
While Greece had to settle for the silver medal, it was still a history-making moment for the team as they the nation earnt their first medal in men's water polo.
Prior to Tokyo 2020, Greece best finish in the men's tournament was fourth at Athens 2004.

Irish boxer Kellie Harrington has won an Olympic GOLD medal after defeating Brazil's Beatriz Ferreira in the women's 60kg lightweight final.

She won by a unanimous points decision to become only the second Irish female boxer to win an Olympic medal after Katie Taylor's gold in London 2012.
