Thanks for the tip, so the cops are pretty bad down there....I will actually be going to Altavista, are you familiar with that area?

 

Been near Altavista on my way to Roanoke and Radford but I've only passed by.

The state police will give you 4 -5 miles over, but if you match the rest of the traffic, you should be alright. Just don't stick out. I'd stay right on the posted speed limit in the towns, though. The local yokels might just think an out-of-state visitor would be nice and tender. On route 29, I wouldn't go over 60mph.
