i actually whole-heartedly enjoyed ... it was so simple and straight forward but i also got a feeling that the underlying theme was a bit deeper. No one else i tried to get to read it liked it very much.

It's a good book to read if you've never read anything by Hemingway before, but would like to be introduced to his writing. It is easy to read, but loses nothing in it's simplicity. Really, I think the simplicity makes it what it is...a great read.

With Hemingway alot of what is said is what is not said ;) Even though his writing style is so simple, he can be a tough author to read beyond the words.

    Twas okay.

The Sun Also Rises was better, though.

I always felt Hemingway was overrated. I read The Sun Also Rises and got nothing out of it.

I like best of all Hemingway's books.

I also like the movie of the book with Spencer Tracy.

I actually really liked old man and the sea. its ironic that something so simple can become so complex. he was a chauvinist bastard in person though
