I WISH, THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!
YES it was in 72! But at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, OR
A small group of us (about 6) all spare changed to buy two tickets (geez they were only about $6 bucks back then). We already picked a door outside for them to wait, my sister stood guard at the top of the stairs while I ran down to push the exit door open to let them in. I didn't know that a much bigger group joined them, and when I open the door freaks poured in, running up the stairs, almost trampling me! I don't know exactly how many got in, but guessed at the least 25-30. The security cops were too late & didn't catch any of us! It was the biggest rush & I felt so proud! :)

Dayum. Right in the middle of that year. May 61 to be specific. Helped my Cousin hang Banana peels out to dry. (She was the first person to EVER smoke me up.)
Can I count?

All posts that have not met the guidelines of this thread have been deleted.

If you have comments on this thread please post them in the thread "Where's the beef?". I'll leave them there for others and it will save me the time it takes to delete them from here.

Thanks.

I have a question? I am allowed to ask aren't I? Who set the date for this rule anyway? They took the fun out of it for a lot of people didn't they? They missed the point didn't they? Please some one a few days older than me answer my questions. I am so confused.

Numerous complaints have been received in this forum about postings made by younger members. These complaints range from inappropriate responses, to a lack of courtesy. Thread hijackings, and repeated questions about topics that have already been covered numerous times in the past have also been mentioned. Some have suggested that this forum be closed to those born before an unspecified chronological year. Others wish it to remain open to all age groups so that the young and old may interact in a mature setting.

The Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) thread was started in an attempt to provide a partial resolution to this problem. Its purpose is to provide a place for younger members to ask questions of their elders without repeating the same question ad infinitum and to allow the younger members to still visit this forum without unduly upsetting grandpa and grandma hippie. Hopefully this will allow more interaction in the rest of the forum.

The dividing line between old and young was discussed in the “Where’s the beef?” thread and various options were presented and considered. In the end I choose the cut off chronological year as 1964 based upon the usually accepted date of the end of the “Baby Boom” years in the United States. I know that the “Hippie Movement” did not occur at any one time or place. It was (and is) a wave phenomenon. It travels through time and space like a wave; starting, cresting, lingering, and even ending at different times and places. The “Summer of Love” may occur at any time or in any place. I myself, did not become part of the show until 1969, a date I consider to be a few years late. I missed the 1967 ”Summer of Love” both in time and place. But, I was one of the first in my particular little town and faced the problems that most of “those who go first” encounter.

Although the “Hippie Spirit” is still alive the times have indeed changed and those who follow the path today will have many different experiences then those who went before.

The purpose of this thread is to allow those who were part of the initial surge to speak to those who come after and describe their particular trip.

I realize I have made a distinction between old and new based upon a specific ideal. And I realize that all distinctions have certain consequences, some good, and some bad. Believe me, I don’t like excluding those born 1 day into 1965, or those much later who may have lived or are living their life to a much higher standard than some of those born within the “Boomer” years. But, if you want an “Old Hippie” forum and a “Young Hippie” forum a distinction must be made somewhere.

Again, anyone of any age may start their own thread or post almost anything they wish in the “Old Hippie” forum. This is the only thread in this forum that has any additional stipulations beyond those applied to the rest of the site. If you are in disagreement with this policy please post your concerns in the “Where’s the Beef?” thread. If the majority wishes changes to be made I will gladly make them. However, keep in mind that this type of FAQ is very time consuming to police and it will be terminated if it becomes too much of a hassle.

I'll recheck my math based on 1964 and redo the age...I think I used 1961. I'll bring back any posts based on that revision.
