okay, this is just sad.

Consideration for others is a lot easier and a lot more rewarding if you're comfortable. There are reasons to be good to one another whether you have a holy absolute or a logical social benefit influencing your behaviour; the difference, if any, arises when you fall on times. I would guess - admittedly without evidence - that a belief in something intangible would give one less reason to abandon decency when times are hard for oneself.

Makes me think of that Hierarchy of Needs thing. Anyone can be a nice person when they're well-fed and well-slept. It's when someone's hungry and tired that you find out whether they're a decent person or not; when there's far less to gain and far more to lose from letting someone go ahead of you in a queue or whatever.

I hope the OP gets "brainwashed" to the "dumb side" too. Even if just for the afternoon.

I rarely look at the ages of people on here. I always assume people are my own age, so I was a little taken aback by the first post. It makes sense if he is that young. I had a "friend" (I didn't really like him anyways) when we were still 19/20 comment that the Catholic Church is a cult. And then when I said that my GF/Fiancee was a Catholic and I wanted to get baptized (away from everyone so I didn't put him on the spot) he told me to fuck off and "get out" (from a mutual friends birthday party). That is his specific /protestant uprising though.

I guess my personal story's point is twofold: People can be jack-asses when they aren't sensitive (and I'm not saying you have to be wishy-washy all the time); and two, don't be a jackass when it comes to religion, cults, and "brainwashing".
