I chose not to eat because I just couldnt support it...not because i thought by not eating I would be helping some starving person. I usually only shop for food from the local co-op cuz at least there I know the food comes from organic farmers and it meets the supply and demand in my area. However, last night I was staying at a friends and was at Safeway [a chain market]. I do feel bad for wildlife as well. Thats why I live as green as I possibly can and am vegan. I think in terms of who has it worse....were all pretty fucked.

what i really meant by the growing our own thing was that by doing that, we're cutting down our pollution drivin to the shop to buy veg, and all the scraps are composted as opposed to chucked in a landfill =]

xD We can make a new tribe!! And I'm still considering my thoughts on vegeism, hmm lol. After watching Happy Feet I didn't want to eat fish xD poor penguins... And I do love wildlife. And I'm basically a vege at uni anyway, I don't like storing meat xD Ahh well ^^

I agree that if we all hunted our own food there would be no wildlife left at all. I guess that is what farming is for... I don't like farming xD Well, Industrial farming.

*Sigh* There is no answer really :(

kill as much as needed/can be eaten.. dont kill unnecessarily.. i think humans & animals can live in peace alongside each other, but we havent figured out the balance yet

i also love wildlife, but i also like meat.

lol meat is good. so is wild life. but really. the meat in stores isnt wild life. its animals that were basically GROWN to be killed and used as food. its like growing vegetables. hey, they're both alive at some time!

i used to eat meat, but i dont miss it. well, i eat eggs, drink milk, but before i just tipped toed around the subject, since some basic functions that our bodies do without our knowing destroys thousands of lifeforms on or around our bodies.

i haven't started buying from pure local suppliers yet. we're on the way down in this depression and i need to find a way to do this without breaking the bank. it really is more of an inconvenience than replacing meat in your diet, but well im just procrastinating arent i.

there is just so many problems with society, with the world, on a global scale. this culture protects us, but it hurts us at the same time. if we changed there would be things good and bad, there is so much i just dont know where to start. it is overwhelming. like, if i gave up my computer and internet to feed some kids across the seas, wouldn't i be less efficient with my ability to gather information and process it? by giving up something to help someone else, i hurt myself and still give up the ability to help others. how about the fuel used to get that food overseas, im helping someone but hurting someone else. you could apply the same principals to so many different scenarios and still not come up on the good, just some weird off-balance.

i dont think anyone knows the balance we need, or we'd know it by now.

    Agreed ^^

I don't think we'll ever know the balance. With so many different opinions to the meaning of life: Work to live, live to work... Its all bollocks. Animal's live to survive, to carry on the species. We are animals. Plain and simple, we should live to survive.

If the bankers and the government and right winged *twats* (if you don't mind me saying so) don't realise this soon then we aren't going to get very far at all.

Oh my I can't believe I'm talking politics!! I've been waiting for this day to come xD I think that right wing and left wing have totally different morals, right wing live to work/work to live and left wings strive for better ways to survive :) Am I right? (I'm a beginner at this politics lark :p)

So yea, we aren't going to get anywhere without a huge change. LOL *thoughs of marxism going through head* pure communism... My brother warned me I'll be converted.. xD

my friend had a similar experience as to yours. she was in the peace corps for a few years living on a teeny island, without modernized shit; like homes and running water. so when she came back to america after her trip, her mum sent her down to the store to fetch bread. she told me that she just stood in awe in the bread isle, her first time back in a grocery store for years, and started balling. she just couldn't handle the selection; staring at a WHOLE WALL full of bread and then thinking back to the island where you're lucky to even find bread...
i don't even find this way of living satisfying. i just don't understand how life has been summ'd up to this...a veil of materialistic void.

when it comes to food shortages the solution is incredibly simple yet it takes a adjustment in thinking from all people

when you walked through that supermarket stroll through the meat section, and contemplate just how many tons of food were taken away from humnan consumption to feed animals while being tortured just to be slaughtered
a cow that might yeild a few hundresd pounds of beef had to eat toins and tons of grains year after year
in addition to that, millions and millions of acres of land are wasted for cattle graising grounds that could be used to produce thousands of tons of food a year
the cattle industry (cow farts in particular) are the biggest cause of greenhouse gasses by far
if the millions of acres used for cattle alone were converted to grow greains and veggies we could reverse global warming and produce many many tiimes the food we do now (guessing about 40 times)
it would take only a 20% reduction in the meat industry to end all world hunger
yet in outr arrogance we refuse
amnde in our greedd we instread try to demonize those who choose to go withouytr meat in theyre dietss and push for a larger meat industry
how manmy advertisementrs do you see a dayt streesssing how more meat makes you more a man..how many tv showws portray vegatarians as week weird or anti american..even going as far as to imply you should be ashamed to be one
    mind control at its simplest
    and all the world siffers
    why
because in days past meat had been so expensive it was resserved for the richh it was a status symbol to be able to serve meat
today we deal with much the same thinking only less clear
meat eatters strongly deffend theyre diets without knowing why
they reject all logical arguments to the contrary and flat out refuse to change..even if it meant helping to end siffering and death

knowledge. i dont refuse to stop eating meat, i just like to eat meat. But i deffinatley like the idea of stopping all the cow fields for gardens. thats a good idea. my bio teacher told us about the cows and stuff, and that people who eat meat are stupid because you get more energy from plants, and theyre cheaper to get food from. (you dont have to feed it like a cow)

exactly all nutrients come from soil water and sunlight plants turn them into edible food..then animals eat that food to grow when you eat thye animals your getting your nutrients second hand, farther from the soiurce

oh and you only like eatting meat out of habbit and conditioning (and marketting convincing you you should)
stop for a year or 2 and even the thought will make you sick the smell will make you neasuease.. and a single bite will give you a fever till you puke your guts up
think about what your eatting..some dead animal
whats so different about that animal and the people you call freinds or the animals you call pets..those you bury and mourn when they die..so why do you eat a chicken or cow..and not eat your freinds and family and pets

i dont like touching raw chicken,, but ill happily eat it when its cooked...

i see your point SE, and i know about cows farting too much methane etc, i think in south america the deforestation is mainly taking place to give land over to cattle grazing -- thats so wrong on so many levels

Wow ok.. Soaringeagle I think you've turned me xD I've been debating this to myself but not really figuring out any reasons why or why not to turn vegified, I think I needed this read xD That is such an awesome.. I can't think of the word... Ermm.. Give me a sec xD

...Way of putting it!! I've never heard that argument before :) And I have, while biting into flavourless cooked chicken, that it is, infact, just dead meat.. Has a crap flavour too xD I might have to write your points down to memorise them so I can be like HAH owned (to the meat eaters who scorn) I'm not doing it for the fluffy animals, I'll do it to aid.. whatever you said xD WORLD HUNGER ^^ I have a short memory xD *Dory*

Aha maybe I should change my name to "Doryvine" ..That just looks silly ^^

AND that's why I'm against farming too!! It's silly!!

Wow my vegan brother will be impressed... Cheers ;D

Edit: Ok, an extra thought... I'd happily hunt for food. Fish, etc- But I'd never buy meat from supermarkets. Never have done come to think of it :)

Its the concept of farming I don't like.

If I were to go camping and have the nessecary skills to hunt fish (I think I'd only ever hunt fish, not sure why... I used to own a bunny probably...Stupid excuse but meh lol).. Hmm, I dunno. I think this needs more thinking xD Come to think of it, I don't really like the idea of 'Death'...

    Hmm...

yeah thats what he was getting at, the second hand or what ever you want to call it, passing down the food chain, lowers the energy, i believe every consumer, like secondary, you eat the cow that ate the plant, you only get 10% of the energy from the plants the cow ate. then the next one would get 10% of the 10% which is 1% of the original energy. (if I recall biology class correctly)

and idk. it is natural though, animals have always been carnivores or herbivors, or a mix.
I dont think the market convinced me, we just eat meat alot. I wouldnt mind not eating meat alot but thats just how my parents make dinner. I like salad. Pasta, what ever. Its good.

I get what your saying with the eating pets and shit. Well, people in china DO.... very weird. but yeah. Mostly the difference is that we dont really treasure cows and such as pets. Theyre livestock, or farm animals.

Lol my brother is trying to turn me from vege to vegan now xD Jees gimme a chance!! I like my dairy too much :( <3 cheese :D

haha yeah deadstock. but i dont know many people who would want a pet cow. anyway, some are livestock. like the dairy cow. vegetarian is good enough, vegan... eh. i think thats a bit unnecessary. your not killing the animal for milk.

Actually... When cows are bred for milk, the males are killed off... apparently.

And its kinda harsh the way they pump the milk out of them :(

yeeeepp. might keep one bull calf to breed in the future, but bulls are normally killed for meat, or just for the hell of it.

and when cows are bred for milk, the often get them pregnant (to produce the milk) and then kill the calf when its born, regardless of its gender..

its a horrible, sick thing to do, but at the end of the day its business..
