we have a special shovel for the purpose, the shovel itself is a fairly solid metal, and the edges are shrp to hack away ice, and the handle is adjustable, but better short so you can get into tighter spaces.
always best to be prepared. hubby got blown off the road in the snow in sub-zero temps, with a car full of groceries. someone gave him a lift for the last 100 yards or so, with the milk so it wouldnt freeze in the car. that was about 2 years ago or so. really intense winds up in the mountains sometimes.

i have another 30 minutes before i have to get hubby up for work. make coffee, plan tomorrow's rushing around blahbity blah.

does anyone know what language to use when i call the gas company? the meter has been smelling the whole time weve been here, but when i had hubby call last year they just came out ant shut it off. he must have said "smell" and "gas" in the same sentence. im guessing that its some sort of seal that needs to be replaced, but its definitely on their equipment, not mine. maybe they just misunderstood last year, but it does make me nervous. and i have smelled gas in front of some other houses too, so im sure its something that just happens over time.

Hardcore Firehose dog toy. Apparently this dog chews it up in 20 minutes. I just gave it to Grace...the clock is ticking. Hers has an elastic band on one end so it could be for a "tug a war" play. She is starting by removing that first.

I got Grace the one for large dogs even though she is only 28 pounds.

 

My dog has no interest in toys it's odd. I say the word "hike" or anything rhyming with hike and she's at the front door wanting a walk though lol.

it doesnt just smell when its cold. it is certainly fainter when its warm, but i can always smell it. when it IS cold and the heat kicks on it smells heavily, even out at the street which is about 30 feet from the meter. it sort of fills the area of side yard and that whole side of the front.

my dog destroyed a new toy in about an hour. we need a tug toy that is made of rubbery material, the squeak toys (with squeakers removed) are the only ones that have held up thus far, and one kong treat toy. she doesnt care for the little rawhide bones. might have to get her better quality ones. she needs more toys. she ate the pocket out of the only pair of jeans that fit comfortably, now i have to stitch what is left closed so i dont lose anything in it.

Furnace puts out some serious heat... Holding the house at around 60 with no duct work. Crawlspace is about 75 and still snow on the roof. (insulation in the roof keeping the heat in)

Right now it wants to blow 150 degree air into the ducts. It can go higher but it would be rare that I would need it. This thing will burn coal too if I wanted, it's rated for both. Impressive stove impresses...

i did that once on a delivery job...the plow guy swung the wing out far and covered a ditch with nice flat snow..it looked like a safe parking place....when i pulled over the car sunk halfway in and almost flipped over

 

i wouldnt call until after the holidays (just in case the idiots shut it off again )...you'll smell the tiniest leak because they add stuff in to make it stink bad...i wouldnt worry unless the whole yard stunk and you could hear a leak

it can get to -30C here and ive never smelled anything at the meter...but our meter is only a few years old

 

yeah, i will wait until after the holidays, dont want to make anyone elses holidays more trouble than necessary. house hasnt exploded yet, so probably safe for a few more weeks at least. i have a sensitive nose, but even hubby can smell it. i have smelled "the tiniest leak" before as well, lol, at our last place (someone set up the furnace without the right seals, hubby thought i was nuts. maintenance guy couldnt smel it either, used a sensor, i was right) i can hear a whistly noise at the meter, may or may not be a normal noise. house was built in '67, i have no idea how old the meter is. if there is no breeze then that whole side of the house does smell. i keep catching tiny whiffs inside too, that is probably what is making me want to fix it now. its probably just seeping around my stupid old need-to-be-replaced-when-we-can-afford-it windows.

My three year old insists on only being called Batman now. Which is really awkward while at the mall with a newly potty trained child. "Batman, do you need to go poop? No? Are you sure?"

had pretty good christmas day, on christmas eve, here with one set of grandparents. Tomorrow driving up to London to be with other grandparents and rest of family. get to see my beautiful 2 year old goddaughter! fuck yes!

 

home with my car....dude works on the boat also stopped to help....pulled me out backwards...no digging....I just sat in my car and steered..........
