Very true. The one day it snowed here was crazy, the whole place turned into a ghost town lol it was a decent amount of snow so there was basically nobody on the roads...

But of course it all melted the next day like usual if there's ever another ice age i'm teaming up with you guys, everyone down here is already a goner

 

I figure they must determine that the savings by not buying salt, plows, hiring more employees, etc is more than the cost of having the city shut down for a day or two, lol.

It's supposed to warm up this weekend, so we're going to go snowshoeing

 

I don't think I have ever saw snow tires ...I don't even know what they look like

 

The same as regular tires, but deeper treads, basically. They're also made out of different material that performs better in low temperatures.

 

There's these 2 guys that live near me, and every time it snows they put plows on their trucks and plow the roads a bit, but they just use their every day normal pickup trucks... I've always wondered if they get paid by the city to do that or if they just do it for 'fun'...

 

I pictured them with spikes lol

 

Some people put chains on their tires, but I'm pretty sure that they aren't street legal lol

There are no requirements for snow tires.
Studded tires may only be used North of Parry Sound and Nipissing districts and only from October 1 to April 30.
Northern Ontario residents may use studded tires anywhere in the province during this time.
Southern Ontario residents may only use studded tires in Northern Ontario. They could face a $1,000 fine if caught using them in Southern Ontario.

 

so apparently I could use them here. I also know that in Quebec, snow tires are mandatory in the winter.

 

Probably in extreme weather they are useful otherwise it seems a little overkill

 

especially since I drive a tiny little hatchback lol.

 

They probably get paid by a business owner to clear his parking lots. Like small side gigs but I doubt the city employs them. Or they are just being nice.

 

no city pays pick up trucks to clear...those dudes are just neighborhood good guys with toys

I'm currently training this new voice recognition software I have to recognize my voice. I received funding from the government to buy it so that I can do schoolwork without having to be in pain the whole time I'm typing/writing. Hopefully it works. I'm pretty skeptical that it will be good enough, but apparently they have really come a long way with voice recognition in the last few years.

 

google has it in their advanced search bar....its cool...plus I noticed phone ones work better these days...411 etc
