Half of a big tree in my back yard fell and took my electricity out because we had 10 inches of snow and then an ice storm on TOP of the snow. Eugene is not ready for such. I guess 5 days without is not too bad compared with back east and what they've been having.

    Trees are down EVERYWHERE.

It hit the corner of my neighbors new building, filled his back yard with debris, (and mine) and dropped a bunch on my other neighbors roof, and hit a 12 foot box van in my yard. I gotta' move back to California. I hate the cold! Fortunately, I stayed with my kids for 5 days.

Yikes. Glad you got it back though finally! We have been lucky to have not lost electricity with any of these storms... considering there are people in PA who STILL do not have energy back... my aunt, who lives about 2 miles from me was without electricity for over a week. This was in temperatures that varied from neg 2 degrees to the 20's most days.

I know. In talking to friends in my hometown, some people who depend on well water for their everyday needs are finding them going dry. Where I grew up (?) was a desert anyway so maybe it's returning to desert. Not to mention the thousands of farmers that grow about every kind of produce that you find in markets from coast to coast. This last decade has seemed to bring particular kinds of hardship all over the place. I feel for those folks back east, the north and even down south. Something's happening that just feels very different to me.

Im from Indianapolis, Indiana but live here in Panam City now. Im an electrician so Ive had my share of storm damage to repair and hung off my share of poles in the freezing rain and snow. My wife is deceased now so I have no reason to go back.

Glad to see you back Scratcho. We did not get hit by this most recent storm but still have snow and ice that won't melt because it is still too cold. Really feeling for the people east of us. I could not deal with another 12 or more inches right now. We are expecting freezing drizzle in the morning. The weather people are coming up with all these new terms to explain the weather but they still have no clue what is really going to happen. Must be nice to get paid even if they are wrong so much of the time.

Thanks, Spectacles. Couch surfing worked out pretty good since it came with meals. You guys have it much worse than here. And thanks tyrsonwood.

Hey Joel! That is scary about the tree...especially since I live surrounded by huge (and small) oaks.

Aside from having to deal with dumbasses at work that think I should just be able to hop on in my car and drive to work (which I've NOT done, and will not do!), the worse thing(s) about the snow/ice storms here is worrying about the trees falling and losing power.

Thank goodness you were able to go to your kids and spend time there!

Didn't have 'em then. Broke a disc in my spine and thought I was through with roofing, so decided to move back to the mainland with then girlfriend (to Oregon where she was from)and figure out what was next. Was talked into seeing a chiropractor and the rest is history. A little back maintenance once or twice a year keeps the rockin' chair at bay. Although--pretty much retired.
