    Laws that are kinda dumb:

It is unlawful for an excon to own a gun (for the most part) but they will not prosecute one for going to a gun store trying to buy one but will prosecute the store owner for selling him one.

It is unlawful for a person under age to drink but they will not prosecute an under age person for trying to buy booze but will prosecute the store owner for selling it (same for tabaco products)

Should the it be the person who is in the wrong in the first place for trying to purchase not be held accountable instead of letting them bug tons of people until finally somebody slips up and sells it to them.

well, it's also against the law to sell those things to inappropriate parties, therefore to sell them is prosecutable.

but why is it not against the law for those inappropiate parties to try to attain what they are in full knowledge is unlawful for them to have?

because lawbreakers are sneakier than law abiders. the abiders have more to lose.
