My first day growing, I had my flourescents over the plants for 16 hours, yet they didn't grow untill the dark period, where they grey 2 1/2 inches... I was going to start growing more with a longer light period, but when I saw this, figured it was odd, and that maybe I shouldnt.... Since they grey bette rin the dark period for some reason, would it make any difference?

Under flourecent light you can give them 24/7, do you have a high pressure sodium light?

No, I've never really was too fond in the whole wiring of things like that, always seemed too complicated to deal with, so I have 4 flourescents, 40 watts each, got them last week specifically for growing.

Also: 1.) If they can grow under 24/7 light which I have heard commonly, why do I read of giving them a dark period at all?

2.) Which do they grow faster under? 24/7 Light, or a dark period with it.

I suppose by "24/7" you really mean 24/0.
I veg my plants on a 24/0 cycle and have been for years.
My 4" tall rooted clones grow to 15" tall in 18 days under a 24/0 sched.

they "appeared" to grow in the dark, because they were stretching, looking for light.
