I hardly ever know what he's talking about. I generally cannot even respond to him even when I'm pretty sure he's offering criticism.
To the Charlotte protestor and all NC residents: Solidarity March and Occupation October 15th Downtown Greensboro 3pm We are on it! occupygreensboro.org we also have a GA Occupy Greensboro Facebook group
Where are they protesting in Asheville? Pack Square? With the exception of a few small Bank of America branches, there aren't a lot of obvious targets there. That detachment from mainstream American big capitalism is part of what makes Asheville so attractive to hip people. It surprises me that the Charlotte group is at the old city hall building. That's several blocks from the Bank of America headquarters, which should be their prime target. :groupwave: :hurray:
They have an occupation in Pritchard Park and I think they're doing a daily picket march throughout the city too. I don't think they're trying to protest any establishments in the city so much as show solitary with other cities that have more established banking institutions. They also have a subset of the protesters that are focused more on police brutality than anything else. As someone who has witnessed police brutality in Asheville and seen police harassment countless times, I think thats a cause that hits close to home for them.
Bank of America has no place for people to camp out, so they're doing that at the lawn at the old city hall. When I went on Sat, we marched to the BofA and protested there for an hour or so. There's not a lot of room because part of the sidewalk in front of it is owned by BofA, so we could only march on the public sidewalk (dumb, I know) It just has to do with where they could get a permit. But what frustrates me is that they plan all of the big marches on Saturdays, when the bank is closed and no one is there. I get that most people have to work during the week, but they should establish some type of presence there during the week.
I dedicate this to The 99%!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnrPP3qkM0E"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnrPP3qkM0E
Occupy this Saturday, everyone! I was on the news on my birthday for Occupy Indy, holding a sign that said "Free hugs for the 99%"!
:beatdeadhorse5: Ugh. Why don't people get it? There is a handwritten sign floating around on facebook that is supposedly written by a college student who is working, paying their way, scraping by, etc., etc., etc. At the end of the statement they claim they aren't in the 99%. If you aren't in Forbes 400, you are in the 99%. :beatdeadhorse5:
I just read a powerful statement: "The survival of humankind and of the planet is dependent on stopping the machine."

OK, so, I'm not one for conspiracy theories and feel free to completely knock me down and belittle me for this "clearly obvious" statement, however, I've noticed that the news is really bringing these protestors down! I believe the government/media are trying to make them out to be the bad guys. In Boston, they have to cancel an event this weekend because of the protestors... http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news...t-cancelled-because-of-occupy-boston-20111012 And lets not forget the "$2M" in overtime the city has to pay police officers... http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news...ould-cost-city-2m-in-police-overtime-20111012 Oh I am so sorry, city of Boston, New York, San Francisco, and every other city where protestors are "invading" on your lives...please forgive us for knowing YOU ARE ALL IN THE WRONG for your poor government and awful corporations...
Knowing it is true, and seeing it happen in front of your eyes are too very different things... It is jarring when it is as obvoius as it has been over this.
Well, the sources you quote are Fox, and they are very much against the protests, having gone so far to call the protesters 'dirty hippies' and 'un-American' (if Fox decides who is 'American' I'd take being called the converse as a compliment).
Thank you. You made me feel much better about my "durrr" moment. But its amazing that nothing good has come of this. Even when they interview the protestors (I posted the links from Fox, but they are on every Boston news channel/website), they seem to mock them and make fun of them for what they are doing. For instance, with the 100 arrested the other night, Occupy Boston has a "legal team" that was going to attend the hearings in court. The reporter began laughing and questioning the legal teams ability to "actually do anything." It makes me sick. But, at least we know that those with half a brain will look beyond the news and know that it is the city in the wrong, not the people trying to make a difference.
