I think you're right. There are definitely plants in occupy oakland. It's been done before, and they're doing it now. Not only do the plants seem to get everyone riled up and try to make the whole movement look bad, but somehow the police already know exactly what is going on (there were freaking snipers inside the Kaiser building that was going to be occupied on Saturday, before anyone got there)

That's an acetylene explosion for show, following the design from the book "backyard ballistics". There is no projectile, and if there was, it could easily be lethal to the operator. And again, they have heavy assault weapons, and non-conventional and chemical weapons like the LRAD. Shoot that thing, even without a projectile, and you will have a lot of blood on your hands when they mow the whole crowd down.

Blac bloc tactics are what they are for good reason. If you resist and use shields and smoke bombs, they don't like it, if you have improvised artillery they use the real stuff.

"You don't respect the city of Oakland," Daud Abdullah, 51, shouted at Occupy Oakland organizers. "You're tearing the city apart."

Shake Anderson, an Occupy Oakland organizer, yelled back, "We're trying to address the issues; you wouldn't be here if it wasn't for us. We're building a community. I thank you for showing up."

Anderson then took a Stand for Oakland armband and waved it in the air, saying he also stood for Oakland.

The crowd grew to hundreds of people and riot police stepped in, confiscating Occupy Oakland's sound system in a brief but tense scuffle.

"This is another attempt to silence and destroy the occupy movement," said Brian Glasscock, 20, who said he owns confiscated audio equipment. "We turned it off but they still came for it."

The fracas prompted Occupy Oakland protesters to start chanting, "Stand up, fight back," and calling police derogatory names.

Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said officers confiscated the sound equipment because the occupiers did not have a permit and area.

Anonymous Hacks Oakland Officials In Retaliation For OWS Crackdowns

Concerned with the continuous acts of police brutality perpetrated by law enforcement in Oakland, California, the online group Anonymous has published the personal details of some of the city’s leading officials.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, Police Chief Howard Johnson and several members of the City Council are targeted in the loose-knit collective’s latest release, which is being touted as retaliation for the ongoing unjust actions by way of the Oakland Police Department and the mayor herself directed at Occupy Oakland. Since its inception, the Occupy Wall Street offshoot in the city of Oakland has undergone intense police scrutiny and spawned several city-wide demonstrations, repeatedly marred by violence made possible by an overzealous police response that often involves the deployment of weaponry to disrupt peaceful protests.

In the latest posting by an alleged member of Anonymous, the city’s actions are called into questioned. “Since the inception of Occupy Oakland, we have been actively monitoring your behavior and exposing the identities and sensitive information of Officers of the Oakland Police Department; as they have continued to act in an unprofessional and violent manner,” a member writes on a website affiliated with the group. “You tear gassed us. You shot us with your weapons. You arrested us. You beat us. You also did this to our friends and to our families.”

Several protesters have been injured during the last few months in Oakland, including Scott Olsen, an Iraq War veteran who suffered a fractured skull after being hit with a police-fired projectile. Despite injuries, the movement has only swelled and Oakland-area protesters continue to take to the streets.

On Monday, Mayor Quan hosted a rally against Occupy Oakland. The minuscule crowd was dwarfed by hundreds of Occupy protesters themselves. Police responded to the counter-protests clad in riot gear though no injuries were reported.

In their latest release, Anonymous questions authority in Oakland who continue to condemn the movement. Though a message recently published by the hacktivist collective does not make any call for action, it does post the personal details of Mayor Quan and others, which includes home addresses, telephone numbers and birthday.

“The people on this list are supposed to represent the best of what the city of Oakland has to offer. If they are the best, why is there so much trouble within the police department and in the city of Oakland?” asks an Anonymous operative.

Sue Piper, a spokesperson for the mayor, tells the San Francisco Chronicle that all of the information released by Anonymous was previously made public.

The latest release from Anonymous comes days after the group temporarily took down the website of the US Department of Homeland Security and released a treasure trove of emails from the servers of attorneys Puckett and Faraj, the legal team that represented Sgt. Frank Wuterich. Wuterich had admitted his role in a 2005 Haditha, Iraq massacre that left two dozen people dead, including civilians, although was sentenced to no time in jail.

“When justice cannot be found within the confines of their crooked court systems, we must seek revenge on the streets and on the internet – and dealing out swift retaliation is something we are particularly good at,” the group wrote of that release.

Occupy Group Confronts Pro-White Rally at State Capitol

At least two law enforcement officers were injured on Monday during a clash with members of the Occupy movement who were at the State Capitol to counter a rally by a group protesting violence by blacks against whites in South Africa.

The clash erupted as California Highway Patrol and police officers were escorting about 35 members of the South Africa Project to a parking garage following their protest.

About 50 members of Occupy Oakland began throwing cans and bottles, then rushed the officers.

Two officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital. CHP Capt. Andy Menard said one officer who was struck in the face by an object was released from the hospital. The second officer was getting X-rays after apprehending a person suspected of throwing objects, Capt. Menard said.

Three Occupy members were arrested on suspicion of disobeying an officer.

Members of the South Africa Project were trying to draw attention to what they said is black-on-white violence in that country. Organisers said similar demonstrations were planned in other States and elsewhere in California.

The group was mostly male and white, some with shaved heads and prominent tattoos.

Many of the Occupy protesters, some wearing hoods or masks, said they came from the San Francisco Bay area to counter what they called a racist group affiliated with former Louisiana Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.

Beanbag round hit Marine veteran during Occupy Oakland demonstration, not tear gas canister

OAKLAND, Calif. — An Iraq War veteran whose skull was fractured during an Occupy Oakland protest last fall was hit by a beanbag round fired by a police officer, not a tear gas canister, his lawyer said.

Scott Olsen was struck by a beanbag fired from less than 30 feet away during the clash, Olsen’s attorney Mark Martel, told the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday

Oakland police confirmed the beanbag shot in an e-mail sent by investigator looking into the department’s handling of the protests, said Martel, who is preparing to file a claim against the department. Police haven’t said previously what hit Olsen, and didn’t immediately return e-mail messages from The Associated Press on Thursday.

“The fact that it was a beanbag shot, which was not what we thought, puts it in a completely different light,” Martel said. “If he was hit by a tear gas canister, that would just be stupid or negligent.

“But if it was a beanbag — those are meant to hit people, and it tells me that whoever did it, did it intentionally.”

Olsen was injured during a nighttime protest on Oct. 25, after police cleared the Occupy Oakland encampment in front of City Hall during an early morning raid. He suffered a fractured skull that led to a brain injury and difficulty with his speech.

Martel said videos showing Olsen, a former Marine and also a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, during the protest show that whoever shot him was within 30 feet.

Officer Johnna Watson, an Oakland police spokeswoman, declined to name the officer involved in Olsen’s injury or to comment on the investigation.

Oakland police and a private contractor are investigating the city’s response to the anti-Wall Street protests that has led to numerous demonstrations and thousands of arrests.

May Day strike to shut down Tuesday morning ferry service

A strike by Golden Gate ferry workers will shut down service on Tuesday morning for May Day, the international workers' holiday.
Similar protests and acts of civil disobedience are expected to take place in cities across the nation. In Oakland, where Occupy activists have called for a general strike, actions are scheduled to last all day, with demonstrations beginning at 8:30 a.m. and culminating in a 3 p.m. march from the Fruitvale BART station to City Hall, where a 6 p.m. rally is scheduled.
Longshoremen also have called for a daytime work stoppage at the Port of Oakland, and about 4,500 nurses working without a contract are planning to walk off their jobs at eight Bay Area Sutter Health hospitals.
Occupy Oakland no longer has plans to occupy the Golden Gate Bridge in solidarity with bridge unions that have been without a contract for nearly a year. Bridge officials said Friday that they had been working with law enforcement agencies on a plan to keep the bridge open to the estimated 110,000 cars that cross it every day.
But union ferry workers say they will strike Tuesday, leaving passengers who ride ferries from Larkspur and Sausalito with no boats in operation.
"We have been negotiating in good faith for one year now," said Rene Alvarado, ferry terminal assistant and member of the Inlandboatmen's Union, which is calling the strike.
A statement issued by the union said "the strike will shut down morning ferry service."

Golden Gate Bridge officials said they will cancel morning service and restart ferry service at 2:15 p.m. "The union has indicated this is only for the morning," said Mary Currie, bridge district spokeswoman. "We will have to monitor the situation.
Oakland officials also have been planning for possible disruptions. The city released a statement Friday cautioning that police were "prepared to swiftly address any criminal behavior that would damage property or jeopardize the safety of the public or police officers."
Occupy Oakland is scheduled to begin its activities at 8:30 a.m. with pickets at three locations: Snow Park to shut down banks; Telegraph Avenue and 22nd Street; and Fourth Street and Broadway.
After the 6 p.m. rally at Ogawa Plaza, Occupy supporters said, there might be an attempt to again set up camp at the plaza.
