What few Americans can see, or are willing to admit if they do know, is that the US political system is fucked. You imagine you're living in the land of the brave and the free when the differences between the top 1% of the population and those below the poverty line are the worst of any developed nation. You imagine you live in a demoncracy(oops, freudian slip - democracy!), you don't. Cashed up corporations and the military industrial complex in an un-holy mix with fundamentalst Christians run Congress through well financed lobby groups. No only that but the strangle hold by the neo-conservative forces on the media mean you're hardly ever exposed to the truth. How many mentions of climate change have been made in relation to Frankenstorm? Add to that the astonishing delusion Americans have that their president runs the country like some kind of royalty when it's congress and the lobby groups in charge and you have a form of mass delusion un-precedented since just before the Roman Empire fell to it's knees. And all that's before we even begin to investigate the implications of voluntary voting.
