In 2004 40% of the eligible people in this country didn't vote and 2000 was worse. I hate to be the one to tell you this, but politicians prefer it if you don't vote. Fewer people who vote, means fewer votes needed to win. Politicians would love it if every election came down to which candidate could get the most friends, family and lobbyists to vote for them.
You are correct. If more people voted in 2004 than 2000, it most certainly is getting worse. If the politicos don't want you to vote why do they spend so much time, energy, and money getting people to register? I have been accosted several times in local malls by eager beavers trying to get me to vote. I thought they were politicians. I even think officer holders want you to vote. They mail me all sorts of B.S. every election. Of course, you may be right. It probably is easier to fool a smaller number of people. To miss paraphrase Lincoln. "You can fool some of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, and all of the people all of the time." On second thought, maybe that was McCain quoting Obama. Ha. Ha. Ha. If you must vote, vote for Pat Paulsen. Now someone will say he is dead!
Now that's funny...in a sad sorta way. ...and you might be right, Obama might stand for the same crap we've put up with forever, but I'll still vote for him. Time will tell. 'Course if McCain gets in offfice, you'll never get the chance to see me with egg on my face, now will you? Accosted by eager beavers in the mall to vote, eh? No wonder you're so resistant to the idea. I've never had that experience, but then, I don't spend much time in malls... I've never been called a fascist before, but I see where you're coming from, and I didn't mean to put you in that "us versus them" category, I'm not wired like that. Me a fascist, ha ha. If Pat Paulsen were on the ticket, I'd vote for him. We could use some comedy right now. Maybe we'll get it (if you have the right sense of humor).
My comment: I might even vote for him if I could remember how. Last time I voted you used pencils and paper ballots, now they use machines. They are probably easier to finagle.
Depending on the outcome of my vote for Obama, I may never vote again, but I'll keep an open mind for now... Take it easy,
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy.../06/26/AR2008062603653.html?hpid=opinionsbox1 I know that Charles Krauthammer is the Washington Post's in house conservative, but I have found him pretty honest. You should read this opinion column of his in the recent Post. Of course, he supports government and voting, nevertheless, this is worth considering. Please do not consider this a "I told you so," comment. It maybe, but please act like it isn't. Consider it the ramblings of a Christian Anarchist.
Good article. Disappointing, but not too surprising. The fact that Obama clinched the nomination says it all. Of course he'll support the agenda of those who put him there, he wouldn't be there if he didn't. It sucks, but until the system gets overhauled such that politics and politicians aren't for sale, this is what we're stuck with. The puppet strings are still there, it's who's pulling 'em that changes. If we remove big oil and the war mongers from the line of puppeteers, we're better off. McCain won't do that. Regardless of what Obama does when he gets in there, my expectation is that he will mobilize a grass roots movement, a new way of thinking on the part of the American people, or at least give us some hope, which is better than we've got now...
The more intelligent comparison would be one asking if people knew how things would be today without our present private central banking system? Money is the root...trace it back in history, cui bono? Too bad the Federalists won the debate back in the 18th and 19th century. The seeds of the economic upheaval we are experiencing right now were planted long before. Bush's policies have simply brought things to this level quicker and more to the benefit of Halliburton, KBR, and the Carlisle Group. I believe in hope and I certainly hope Obama if elected (pray that Mc Same isn't elected by fraud like the last two elections were) will put into action the things he has talked about. But I won't hold my breath. Don't bet on the establishment assassinating him simply because he was elected but you can bet if he crosses the lines like JFK did he will be dealt with. Unfortunately, the only person who has championed some of the changes that would really put us on the right path has been marginalized and the media/ establishment has brainwashed everyone into thinking "he can't win." Thanks Stefanolpolis and the media gestapo. Molon Labe! Monetary Reform Now!! monetary.org (American Monetary Institute)
After what I've read recently, the puppet strings seem to be in Clinton's hands now. I assume this happened during his meeting with Hillary in unity, uniting the Democrats to screw the rest of us. Now he's on board the Clinton bus. It's disappointing, but I'll take that over four or eight more years of McSame any day.
EVSRIDE: Obama if elected ... will put into action the things he has talked about. But I won't hold my breath. Don't bet on the establishment assassinating him simply because he was elected but you can bet if he crosses the lines like JFK did he will be dealt with. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I won't hold mine either. If you do you will asphyxiate yourself. How the hell did JFK cross a line? He was an establishment leader, par excellence. His old man was a first rate Wall Street manipulator. Listen, Fat Cats have run this country, run this country, and will continue to run this country. They don't have to bump off the men they make presidents. Obama is as safe as a babe in his grandma's arms. Hopefully, no one gets assassinated. It makes no sense. Some nut shot Kennedy.
Yep, I've been thinking that since the beginning. At the moment it appears that he won't be crossing those lines. He's already succumbing to self preservation by making some huge compromises. I'm livid about the FISA thing, but what can I do? I'll still vote for him. Years ago I would've voted for McCain, he would've been better than bush, that's for sure.
Yeh, the article's wish-washy crap. Using as many words as possible to say as little as possible. Our brand of democratic republic is inherently flawed anyway.
