What gets me about this subject is that I dont think Obama ever had a pet in his life, but now that he has been elected, he feels the pressure to get a dog. That speaks volumes right there. This is obviously a man who is not a dog lover, but bowes to the pressure of fitting in to the previous presidents. If such a simple thing as having a dog is that much pressure to him, then what will happen when REAL issues arise? And what kinda life will this dog have, not knowing who his/her real master is, because you know it wont be Obama but probably several aids will be in charge of the animal. I have not been without a dog in any year of my life, and have had more than one at times. I love animals, and this situation I just cant comprehend. For someone to get a dog just because they want to be like the people before him, thats stooopid. Face it, Obama doesnt really want this dog, he is just trying to be like others before him. Sorry excuse to get a dog, and sorry excuse for a man, and even sorrier excuse for a president who is collapsing under simple pressure.

Where in the world did you even get that ^^?!
If you were listening at all to what the Pres elect said, he was telling his 2 girls that now that they were going to the White House, they could Now Have the Dog they had Been Wanting - and even furthur mentioned it might be a mutt "like him" - not an exact quote, but damn close.
There is NO indication whatsoever that Obama has a desire to get a dog b/c
"he is just trying to be like others before him".
You need to at least do at Bit of homework b4 coming up with drivel such as this.

I think his girls want a pet, and I think they and Michelle will give it what it needs even in the White House (love). In fact a dog just might be the type of thing that can help them maintain normalcy in some sort of life, family situation while there.

And I've known dogs that can win over even those that see animals as only that animals. If they choose wisely this may be good for everyone.

I see animals as only animals.

    And I love them.

    I guess it's a love/eat relationship.

I look at all life forms as valuable and am open to relating to and with them, and respect them. My life has been more full for that capability. I will not apologize for that.

You just confirmed what I said.

"he was telling his 2 girls that now that they were going to the White House, they could Now Have the Dog they had Been Wanting "

Why is it that they had to go to the White House before getting a dog?

he promised them a dog when the race was over, not if he got into the white house.

why are you making a federal case out of the guys choice of pet?

My dad was a hard ass who hated all animals growing up.

One day, we brought home this bubbly happy fluffy friendly dog and it melted his heart. He hasn't had a stroke since.

Petting fuzzy animals can lower the amount of stress we have in our everyday lives. If anything, getting a dog could help Obama be healthier and live to make better choices.

    Now fetch!

    Yard space.

There isn't much yard space for a family pet living on a bus for 2 years.

You are exactly right, and I really did mean to say that it was said it was After the race the dog was promised and they were going to the White House so.....yes it was time for the Already Promised dog.
I really just got sorta uptight b/c it seemed like such a foolish thing to misquote/take out of context.
I see this puppy as being a Wonderful thing for the US thru Obama's family, if that makes any sense.
Do I love animals and recognize the wonder and good that they can do? That's a definite Yes! :D

Ok, now that's going to be stuck in my head all day. Thanks. :p

The song originated when Malvina Reynolds and family were driving past Westlake Village in the early 60s (so the story goes) and she viewed one of the very first subdivisions of like homes. I'm a huge fan of mid-century modern architecture and had to have the book, Little Boxes: http://www.littleboxesbook.com/

    I don't think they're ticky tacky!!!

Sorry for the OT interference. Back to puppies and kittens. :)
