Is this really surprising people? Is it not already a known fact that the government spies on us on a much larger scale than New York?

Are you a plant putting me at ease so that I'll stay and in some way incriminate myself? I'm on to you, Dude111... if that IS your name.

Does that rule even matter any more due to the Patriot Act(s)?

In theory there is still a separation. However I believe it's now in the NSA's ballpark to do the spying. They're far better equipped with huge super computer complexes just for spying on us.

There's also the secret Pentagon spy agency setup by Dick Cheney.

There's also a whole new Cyberspy agency building a new data center in Utah I think.

I'm not sure where, but Homeland Security figures in this somewhere. "You're doin' a great job, Brownie!"

It really astonishes me. Here we have the feds performing all this shit to stop domestic terrorism, yet they commit acts that any reasonable human would detest and revolt against. Yet if you revolt, you're a domestic terrorist. pardon me, but there seems to be a significant problem here. To stop evil they act evil, then victimize those that detest the evil created..... too psychotic if you ask me.

Yet more research was done looking into NYPD and CIA's initiative to document the Muslim community in New York. Police states uprising?

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44621976/ns/us_news-security/

"The documents describe in extraordinary detail a secret program intended to catalog life inside Muslim neighborhoods as people immigrated, got jobs, became citizens and started businesses. The documents undercut the NYPD's claim that its officers only follow leads when investigating terrorism."

Yesterday, NYC Police Chief; Raymond Kelly was on CBS. “60 minutes”, stating that his force is able to take down an airplane. NYPD has a 50 caliber weapon.

Skip, I think that spying on Americans and the type of overreach shown above are different sides of the same coin.

While some are viewing this as a civil rights infringement, I tend to see it as more bureaucratic overreach.

NYC police are famous for turf battles with other uniformed services. Now they are franchising out to Rutgers Campus, New Brunswick.

They battle for precedence, and pride of place: with, Housing Authority Cops; transit officers, Port Authority personnel, at the Airports. FBI, you name it, even for place over the smoking hulk of the World Trade Center just days after 911.

It’s all about turf, and the budgets that follow them, the jobs, the pensions, the hires, the perks.

It’s Good to Be The King. And it’s about growing The Franchise.

For Americans, controlling our freedom from intrusive security is about controlling the budget for that security force. Showering them with mandates and subsidies will do nothing to restrain them.

I thought about this on the way home from Manhattan on September 11th; as the ferry was being escorted by two police gunboats.
