We've gone a bit off the subject here: showering nude at a public pool is hardly nudism!

I've yet to go to a nudist beach, but if I ever do, thanks for your advice, GardenGuy, about sitting with other nudists: I've never thought of that.

There's an unofficial nudist beach about twenty-five miles from where I live, but I've read that the nudists there always have to put up with the voyeur pests. And this seems to happen at all nudist beaches, especially the well known ones, which is one reason why I've always felt put off. But yes, safety in numbers.

As to the original question, I'll say this. Nudists don't look at other people's 'parts' - only voyeurs do that. Get it into your head that nudists don't go about nude to show off their bodies, but for health and comfort.

Rose, if you can tag along with a nudist travel club or are lucky enough to be on the nude beach the day they are visiting, it is a far better experience.
Maybe in France, Germany, Denmark or among the Norwegians or Swedes you won't be so badly hounded. But do try to go to a nude beach this summer. The Channel is so cold compared to beaches in my area, but at least you could rest in the sand and enjoy a sunny day and maybe take a quick dip. With your new friends gathered all around, any man who dared make an indecent proposal to you would be harshly treated by your companions. He would rue the day he inconvenienced you.

I am going to add my two cents here:
To answer the initial question, no it does not bother me. The logical side of my mind will tell me that it is human nature to be curious. I like to think on some idealistic level I want to believe that most are not being judgmental and are thinking "If only I was that brave, or adventurous, or that comfortable with my body." I know there will always be those who judge and will say that the nudist is corrupting the young and the innocent. I don't really care. This was the lifestyle I chose to live, if you are curious of my form, my lifestyle, my shape and my body then ease your curiosities. I think anytime you have something that is out of the "norm" you will have those that are taken back by the oddity before them, and then adjust.

Some people are so clueless, maybe mildly autistic, or perhaps a sociopath that they would stare at you with no regard for your feelings. There's no reason why you have to endure that. Either leave the area or see to it that he is asked to leave. At nudist camps, there is support. They want you to be comfortable there.
No one is exempt from the camp rules. Anyone who makes others uncomfortable can and will be shown the door.

I have met other people who were so edgy about being given even a brief glance that
you don't have any hope of escaping false accusations.

There is a middle ground to seek: somewhere between totally avoiding all eye contact and staring at someone like a wolf stares at a lamb.

As you put in more nude time with others, your curiosity won't be so intense.
Clothes have a perverse way of making us unfamiliar and uncomfortable with the bodies of our own species.
Our diversity is amazing. I have met guys with rolls of fat like Shar Pei dogs, women as round as a giant basketball, met guys hairier than the Geico Cavemen, seen people with skin so white that paper looks dark beside their skin. I've seen skin as dark as ebony and every shade in between. I have seen women with long droopy breasts and men with penises so small that they almost disappear, and men with genitals that hang halfway to their knees. I have seen naked women so beautiful that my heart skips a beat when we first meet. I have been amazed to see naked kids in every stage of puberty and learned that development begins over a wide range of years, but eventually they all grow up.
And I've seen seniors who manage to keep their bodies in shape. In fact, many of the retired guys had so much time to run and lift weights that they outclassed a lot of the middle-aged guys on the volleyball court.
I will admit that this kind of diversity is fascinating and that is impossible to ignore.
But staring? That is plain rude, no excuses for that!

I have no problem looking that shouldnt even be a question. If I did I would wear clothes. If I saw someone staring I would talk to them to see what is so fascinating.

Personally, I could care less what others think or what reactions they do or don't have. I was raised in a clothing optional home, and learned at an early age to pay no attention to the reactions of others (whether they be clothed or nude). With that said, however, it is generally considered rude to stare at one's parts, whether it be below -- or above -- the belt line. In most nudist resorts, doing so could get you kicked out if someone was to complain.

I am actually more self concious about people seeing my upper body than below the belt. I had a liver transplant back in 1990 and have a big ugly scar accross my abdomen. It never healed right becuase they had to go back in twice. It is weird but people like to stair at my scar.

@ Boonedock Love: Scars have stories, sometimes great ones. I recently watched Cars 2, so your comment reminded me. There is a scene in which Mater needs to go undercover, to do so he is configured to have a holographic metamorphic sequenced overlaid onto his shell. Problem is, the hologram will not "stick" because he has too many dents. The spy cars offer to remove the dents but Mater refuses. Simply because everyone of the dents were put there while doing something with his bud Lightening McQueen. Everyone one of those dents were special memories to him.

I like to think of scars in the same manor, they define who we are. They, often times, have a story associated with them. Such as the scar that is on my right thigh. When I was 7, I chose to use an aluminum curtain rod as a walking stick and then used it to walk down a very steep hill. The curtain rod couldn't withstand my weight, bent and cut into my thigh. Very painful and very deep scar. Later that day, I lied to my parents and told them I cut my leg going down a slide. To me, at seven it felt they were more pissed that I ripped my pants than cut my thigh, but what did I know as a seven year old kid. Anyhow, anytime someone asks me about my scar I have a good story to tell them.

Scars can also serve as a reminder and a potential lesson to others, such as do not scratch chicken pocks they can, if over itched scar. I have a chicken pock scar on my forehead and on my arm, so should my son ever get chicken pocks I can show him...don't itch it, you may scar yourself.

My father had a scar above his left eye when he had a fight with his brothers and they whopped him in the head with an aluminum baseball bat.

Don't be ashamed of your scars, don't try to hide them. When people stare you might want to let them know the story behind the scar. Could be an excellent conversation starter and just talking about it and easing their curiosities may detour their attentions else where.

Friends I dont know how you do it. I know this is a total n00b thing to say and you probably hear it all the time but I could never be a nudist. I would have a boner all the time. I know it's not supposed to be sexual, but being naked with everything being in reach like that... I couldnt be around women. I guess I'm too sexually charged to be a nudist haha

You'd be surprised. Being naked with other naked people is a lot more sexy as a fantasy than it is in reality. Anyway, most of the folks you'd meet are middle-aged and male. How erotic would it be to hang out with Dad and his best buddies? (Maybe I just killed that particular fantasy stone dead.)

There is no way to convince someone that they wont get a boner but the fact remains its not easy to do if your on a beach. I find the water shrivels up my junk so tight that I couldnt pop one if I wanted. Look at it this way. If you go to a beach and you see all the pretty girls in their string bikinis and you get a boner. Then maybe your right, nude beaches arent for you. But I have been to the beach hundreds of times and cant remember one time that I had a boner. Being nude hasnt seemed to change that either

Probably you would not. It's much more tame than it sounds or fancies to inexperienced. I've introduced beginners to nude beach life several times and none of them had a sincere "problem". You should try out without need to worry.

Pixy, I agree. Erections are very rare and I have never seen one that became a problem, even for guys Shivava's age. The guy sits down for a few minutes or goes for a swim and it is over.

How are we going to convince all these worriers that there is no down side to nudity? It is fun, comfortable, and good for us. Teach yourself to overcome your fears and try something new. That holds true for a lot of things in life!

Well, with the non-stop rain we're having in the UK at the moment, I should think the beaches here - nudist and textile - are mostly empty at the moment.

I experience the opposite effect. I don't get an erection at the beach...mine plays turtle and hides its head. Sure wish it would hang natural but it's shy. But met many people and never once been giggled at commented on or stared at. That's what's nice about true nudity
