I know limiting nuclear weapons was a big deal in the 80s, at the end of the Cold War. Especially between the US and USSR. And people in Europe, and even here, said Ronald Reagan wasn't doing enough. In fact he was escalating the nuclear arms race. Like some kind cowboy, people said. I never supported Reagan. But I thought even then, what's the big deal. Nobody was ever going to use them, nuclear weapons. The US never would. We used to say the Soviets would some day. But it was later revealed, they never would either. Building nuclear weapons funneled money back into the US economy. And I say, like laser guns to kill unicorns (something else that would never be used), build lots of them. Plus I'd rather we have them than our enemies. And frankly I'd rather the Russian have them, than someone like Osama bin Laden. I know they said back in the 80s there were at least four malfunctions in Pentagon computers that almost led to nuclear war. In one at one point, both the Americans and the Soviets, were waiting to turn the keys, to launch the weapons, they said. When I heard that then, I felt like telling people, "Four?" And it never happened? One or two, I could understand. But we couldn't have been that close to nuclear annihilation. Not four times. That just couldn't be. Anyways, they say the Pentagon and US military has fixed all that stuff. Their computers and the way they plan military strikes too. So that hasn't happened since. And once again, it is important we hold onto all our nuclear weapons. Not to use them, but so people like Osama bin Laden know we have them.
But actually, nuclear weapons did win a war. The Cold War. The Soviets couldn't keep up with the arms race. So they abandoned communism. And not a single person was ever harmed by them, nuclear weapons. At least during the Cold War.
Uh when did the Soviet Union give up communism? Did I miss that? Of course they became Russia again, but that didn't change much. In many important ways they have become more communist again. The government still controls the means of production of most important and profitable industries. You can also call it an Oligarchy with a dictator. It's certainly fascist now.
