Chronic left of an item is the quickest way to have it taken off the shelves...

When certain products are constantly stolen from a store (like Robotussin, for example), the items are locked behind the counter to prevent theft...though it's also possible somebody just ran a "chain" through to buy out all of their product without raising any questions...

The cost of shoplifting to the American consumer last year equals 10% of all commodities purchased! We still pay for stolen merchandise. Imagine if the government proposed a 10% tax on all commodities, we would be outraged! People should be outraged about shoplifting, but instead they think, oh, well, its only like $5...

Commodities don't have a high profit margin (generally). Lets say I buy 1 case of an item (#12 items) for $5 each, and mark it up 20%, sell it for $6 each. The case cost me $60, so I have to sell 10 packages before I have even covered the cost of the item, if 1 gets stolen, I can only make $6 off the whole case, if two gets stolen, I can only break even, and if 3 gets stolen, I can only loose money...

See how quickly it adds up!

Markups are generally higher than that, especially at places like Wal Mart that use child labor and 'questionable' business practices. Wally world has no qualms about losing money on a product so as to drive competition out of business anyway. The debate as to whether it is wrong to steal from something so evil isn't one I'm getting into at 9:22AM though.

Markups are not higher than that on many products, especially brand name commodoties, such as Advil, Tylenol, Del Monte Peaches, etc . . .

Wal-Mart has a lower markup, not higher. There business is based on high volume, not high mark-up.

Man that's so fucking stupid, duct tape and now spray paint. I don't what's up where you from but I get what I want without any questions or asking for id cards or shits like that. For the moment that I'm buying stuff it's all good for them. After all, market's mission is to sell not pretend that you shouldn't let that duct tape to someone might be retard enought to smoke it... whoa... the f***?!?

You can't get ANY pseudofed OTC here anymore (my county.) ALL of it is locked up. Pseudofed now has a different formulation, that you CAN buy OTC, which I only saw in one store, and I forgot what it was. Phentermine I think. Is that right, Photo?

Yep, it is phenylepherine (phentermine is the part of Fen-phen that is still available). This is pure marketing on the part of Pfizer, IMO (which is their job, I guess, to respond to demand). I would encourage people to visit their Pharmacist & continue using psuedoephedrine. From the FEW studies I have looked at on this, phenylepherine is NOT AS EFFECTIVE, and IT HAS A HIGHER CHANCE OF SIDE EFFECTS, ie, increasing blood pressure & speediness effect. Maggie, that means people like me and you, who go crazy from psuedoephedrine, will REALLY feel like shit from phenylepherine. I am going to look into this more, but so far, I am NOT happy about the introduction of Sudafed PE. For starters, I think it is VERY misleading. People associate Sudafed with psuedoephedrine. Many people will buy the new product (which is packaged in a red & white box, identical to regular, plain Sudafed) and never realize they are taking a different product.

Part of me wishes medicines were sold as they used to be, when Over-The-Counter meant it was handed to you from over the counter, not picked up off a shelf at the grocery store. I don't believe for one second that placing psuedoephedrine behind the counter will have much or any effect on meth labs, but at least people would get the product they really wanted/needed, or the one that is best for them, if a person trained in medicine was involved.

Hang on, I think I may be wrong, I just found this (which is contrary to the other study I read. I am still going to do more research):

Phenylephrine is a direct acting sympathomimetic agent, unlike pseudoephedrine, which is a mixed acting sympathomimetic and therefore has more side effects than phenylephrine. Furthermore, because of its specificity of action, phenylephrine does not exert significant stimulating effects on the Central Nervous System (CNS). There

are minimal cardiovascular effects at recommended doses, and rare side effects

include tachycardia, headaches, restlessness and nausea [17, 18, 20]. By comparison

pseudoephedrine is a direct and indirect-acting sympathomimetic agent. It acts on

both alpha and Beta-adrenergic receptors, causing the release of noradrenaline from

adrenergic endings thus stimulating adrenergic receptors indirectly [21]. It enters the
CNS readily, thus commonly causing CNS effects such as anxiety, restlessness,

nervousness and irritability. Other common side effects include tachycardia,

insomnia, allergic effects on the skin, urinary retention, dry mouth, anorexia,

hallucinations, headaches, nausea and upset stomachs [17]. Increased risk of stroke

has been associated with the use of pseudoephedrine [22].

Praying for no sinus infection this spring. Or maybe I should buy a few boxes of old fashioned sudafed before I can't get it anymore.
