The month of November is Transgender Awareness Month. In particular, the week of Nov 13th to 19th is Transgender Awareness Week, leading up to the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) on Nov 20th. TDoR is held annually on November 20th to remember the transgender people who lost their lives because society would not accept them. So far, 43 trans people (that we know of) have been killed in the US in 2021. The week or month of awareness is a chance for non-transgender people to get to know real transgender people and transgender issues. The reason that so many in society hate trans people to the point of carrying out murder is simple ignorance. Instead of meeting real people, they settle for caricatures propagated on social media. Real trans people are normal people. They are pilots, firefighters, computer programmers, cashiers, bankers, or any other occupation you can name.
It shares that with Domestic Violence Awareness... there are so many, but that is a good cause! And thank you for being here and sharing that. It's really something when you begin to assimilate the entire awareness ecosystem.
