I don't think anybody did that in this thread. Yups. What was done was asserting likeliness. It was most likely it was caused by the construction work. Some people were ridiculing that assertion in seriousness, and attempting to discredit a news source for no good reason. They were properly corrected. What are you basing this on?
Nope. No insurance. So basically The French state's policy is to bear the cost of reconstruction of historical monuments such as Notre-Dame. However, there were several contracting firms that were working on Notre-Dame's restoration. And if one is determined to have been responsible for the fire, the insurance company is fucked. I read somewhere a lot of companies were involved in restoration and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to determine the culprit. Plus restoration costs are going to be in billions, hence the importance of donations. Also Nobody gains here. There are easier ways to launder money, and they don't include public international exposure.
Also, the Romanian forest thing is very interesting, and apparently the biggest culprit of deforestation in Romania is Holzindustrie Schweighofer, an Austrian-based wood products corporation. So many issues here.
That seems crazy. Maybe it's hard to insure a 900 year old wooden building. Anyway, I was just playing devils advocate and implying it was stupid. Thanks for the info.
I want to get in on insuring the Pyramids of Giza. Limestone is pretty fireproof, and the pyramid structure is the best structure per architects.
I think you're too late.. They supposedly used to have gold on the top. And the valuable treasure is already gone. Ok: can't help myself but for the interested: in Assassins creed: Origins (one of the latest and visually most stunning) you can enter them I'm afraid if it contains valuable trees and is easy accessible to illegal loggers no forest there is safe
News Just In:--- More Than $1 Billion Dollars Raised For Rebuild Of Cathedral. Ordinary Worshipers And High-Powered Magnates Around The World Have United To Restore The Fire Ravaged Cathedral....... Good News Indeed..... Cheers Glen.
They really took Christ's message to heart. I mean, children starve on the streets, but I'm so glad that a billion dollars is going into the restoration of a cathedral. I'm glad people have finally found something to unite behind.
It's not as if the money isn't there to do both - help those on the street, and rebuild the cathedral.
10 billion is way more than the estimated cost of rebuilding. Hopefully the excess money will be donated to a charitable cause.
Damascus needs rebuilding as well. There's also some historic buildings. But some could go to ordinary houses too edit: Tadmur got me just as mad/sad. Not sure if some of that is worth restoring. After all, most of the buildings there were already ruins. But Damascus had some great historic buildings.
I read that wrong, i thought 10 billion seemed a bit excessive lol I would have loved to visit Damascus before the war. Those ancient buildings are irreplaceable
