They just released an image caught by one of the security cameras. I sort of thought he might be responsible!

I'll probably gonna start up Assassins creed: Unity this weekend for the first time in ages :)
That building and its close surroundings really look fantastic in that game. Btw: its dirt cheap these days so if one has a computer to install it on: tip from Asmo

I should get Medieval Total War 2 up and running, Paris sounds like it needs some liberation from the Holy Roman Empire. :D

  9. I wouldn't mind playing the Jerusalem one.

Also, a fire broke out at the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem at the same time as Notre Dame was burning.

The highlights in that game are imo Damascus and the crusader coast city of Acre. Some landmarks/buildings in Jerusalem are accurately portrayed, but not the city as a whole. The 2 other cities have better atmosphere.
When you first approach it on horseback and get a look at it from a distance.... awesome though :)
    Wow, strange coincidence? Intriguing

Worlds oldest structure is also in France

Cairn of Barnenez, 6800 years old

About 2000 years older than the oldest pyramid in Egypt

Worlds oldest wooden structure is Horyu ji (temple) in Japan, built 607 AD

Notre Dame is 900 years old. A forest in Europe regrows in about 60 years.

I just hope Louis Vuitton is willing to donate as much to save the Romanian forest as they are to save Notre Dame. #allwoodmatters

  18. I realize folks are quick to try to find a solution to this sort of thing. We have it in the US as well. Usually when a church is on fire in the US the media starts showing footage from the 60s whilst blaming the KKK. Speculation is natural for humans because we're not animals.

Considering all the recent attacks and vandalism on Christian churches in France, it should be a reasonable assumption that Our Lady of Paris would be the biggest prize for such vandals. Shouting it down right off the bat as "impossible", only adds a layer of uselessness to the discussion. We should be able to work through any possibility without any of them being dismissed out of hand.

Until they shovel the last debris from the site, nobody should draw any "absolute" conclusions.

I admit though, I'm leaning toward worker carelessness. I've worked with several careless French contractors over the years. They slept during safety briefings and joked during toolbox meetings. Portuguese welders are only slightly better in this regard.

If it actually was the work of political/religious extremists, we'll probably never know because France will do their best to keep a lid on it. They will not likely portray it as a rallying point for Parisians. And they certainly won't feed into the hype.

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

If facts are presented that this was an Islamic fundamentalist attack it should be dealt with as such. Otherwise bringing it up is a casual fallacy.

"It was the Catholics. I bet that place was insured, so they just raked in a billion dollars of play money." It's easy. And ludicrous.

it is a bit dumb isn't it when you think of it, of course it was insured, it's not like it was never gonna be rebuilt and they've raked in $600 million from people. it's bloody absurd.
definitely something very fishy going on here.
