But if we also look into perspectives and I'm really reaching here but back in those days trees actually mean a lot more to people than they do today. They weren't taken for granted, it was a skilled trade to work with wood. Armour, weapons, utilities and tools. Nowadays none of this is made with wood.

Like come to think about it, wtf are we doing with so much wood these days anyway? What are we cutting down forests for? Do it yourself fucken home projects? Fuck off. Yes, I get your meaning Another thought: I think in our neck of the woods (pun intended) oaks are sparcely used now. It's taken into account there are less of them and they take long to get big.
But yeah, doesn't change that over deforesting is an enormous problem in other parts of the world, often illegally (including near us though, I recently took notice of it happening in Romania. Some rich folks are trying to buy the land now in order to turn it into a nature reserve in order to save it Hope they manage in time! Not all people are shitty excuses for human beings Not even the rich ).
