how bout instead of a blanket boycott for one day that would be highly ineffective and a bitch to carry out you instead frequent localy owned business in the community. Try and use your purchasing power to effect positive change. Instead of going to wal-mart, go to a small business, run by and owned buy your neighbors, it might cost a little more, but hey, you're willing to make sacrafices to make the world better aren't you? that way money stays within the neighborhood instead of making some rich white people a little richer. Of course if you wanted to protest american overconsumption you could start a food co-op, take public transportation, cut down on your own. Changing yourself for the better is a wonderful thing, trying to change other people is the basis for some of the worst tragedies in history. If you want to protest the war, volunteer at the V.A. Help out veterans, be nice, be respectful, don't bring up politics but if it comes up defend your positions politely and never ever forgetting to mention that you respect their courage and their ability to do something that you probably could never do. This would make some people who are for the war stop and think, hey these anti-war folks ain't a bunch of crazie communist french lovers, but rather respectful and intelligent people, maybe it would be worth listening to this person's positions more thoughtfully. Running around in the streets wearing bandanas with che guevara t-shirts shouting profanities that are believe me no where nearly as clever as you tend to think makes people think: hey fuck these french-loving communist pinko fuckers. Lookit them, they're a bunch of crazies.
Ha ha. Likewise. Eugene has a good hammer hand for hitting nails. Campaigns, student organizations, etc.. are at work on these things as we discuss this. Nick Berg's dad was talking about the same thing today as far as supporting your local merchant.
