Catchy phrase huh? Seems to me every mainstream Christian has this sticker on thier car claiming to be "not of this world" or NOTW Jesus said that his followers would be no part of this world. So, what does it mean to be "not of this world?
It means they live in the world, but they are not of the world. They believe worldly matters are sinful.
Sinning... what is it? Before it was demonised by the Church and before the use of fear as a means to be controlled, why would the sins be listed? My personal opinion, the "sins" cause repercussions which serve to distract you from the option of walking away freely from the turbulence of emotional madness and the hard materiality of the world because you're too busy dealing with the rubble you've left in your wake. "Not of this world", to me, means still to be very much a part of this world(how could you not be if you're claiming it in the first place?) but to take care of things so you don't have to keep dealing with self inflicted chaos. In a poetic description, not "sinning" is allowing the sediment to settle to the bottom of your glass so the waters nice and clear, however, the dirts always gonna be there. It adds the minerals
has two completely separate and unrelated meanings. this earth is just one little dust mote in an close enough to infinite universe. so not being from it, in and of itself, doesn't mean all that much. just that it owes nothing to anything going on here. there is of course, another, and more logically intended meaning, which is to say, neither physical nor imaginary. the only problem with the latter meaning, is that by its very definition, we can never know anything about it. at any rate, i believe it is important to keep in mind, how completely separate these two meanings are from each other. if we ever do meet people, or even microbes, from some planet circling some other sun, that DOESN'T make them some kind of religious woop di doo. they're just microbes, or funny looking people.
what the 'f' are "worldly matters"? other then human social soap opera? (INCLUDING all matters of human belief, and humans believing or not believing in them) on the other paw, the real universe, beyond the pettiness of our own species, which has no reason to even take particular note of its existence, has really no basis upon which to judge it as being "sinful" or otherwise.
