Nigel, the world's loneliest bird, dies next to the concrete decoy he loved by Karin Brulliard February 2, 2018 https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ncrete-decoy-he-loved/?utm_term=.6261d50e7ea9 "The bird was lured to Mana Island five years ago by wildlife officials who, in hopes of establishing a gannet colony there, had placed concrete gannet decoys on cliffsides and broadcast the sound of the species’ calls. Nigel accepted the invitation, arriving in 2013 as the island’s first gannet in 40 years. But none of his brethren joined him. In the absence of a living love interest, Nigel became enamored with one of the 80 faux birds. He built her — it? — a nest. He groomed her “chilly, concrete feathers . . . year after year after year,” the Guardian reported. He died next to her in that unrequited love nest, the vibrant orange-yellow plumage of his head contrasting, as ever, with the weathered, lemony paint of hers."
The human version would be he fell in love with a blow up doll, and you'd be creeped out. Just saying
As with everything, "Beauty in the eye of the beholder " and, as with any 'Relationships' - the ingredients of a well-made cake, chemistry of a well-balanced formula and/or new invention of components which was never thought of, - until it was, not to be criticised until one has "walked in their moccasins" .
In this case, the bird in the article likely didn't think the decoy wasn't a real bird. Just my guess. Unlike men who purchase blow up dolls, knowing that the blow up doll is fake. That sweet bird may have thought that decoy was just an introvert. lol
