When I was out of work for a while last year I signed up for job alerts from various agencies and websites. Some of the job titles made me wonder what some people actually do for a living, and if they are really contributing much to society. One I heard recently was 'Professor of Comparative Human Resources'. I can't really imagine that as a particularly worthwhile academic pursuit. Another one I've seen is 'Change Management Team Manager'. What the f*ck is that? Please post your examples, I'm sure there are plenty more of these around.
The 2 jobs that you mentioned may well have been for posts in the same company that was struggling in a competitive market. The change management involves re-deploying staff as computerization and mechanization is installed. It ensures that nothing is duplicated within large companies, for example several sites sharing the same salaries department. It also deals with components sourced from the far east being incorporated into production. In effect, it is all about keeping staff levels to a minimum. All without letting people realize that the different job that they are doing is costing someone else their job. Corporate HR does much the same job, but is focused purely on people. Among a host of other vulturous tasks, they ensure that contract allow the company to move staff to another site without compensation and that people are selected for redundancy based purely on the cost to the company. HORRIBLE jobs, that I would never want to do.
